Diaries of an addict #4 - MTBs belong to the mountains not the roads - part 1
Hello everyone
How far does that mountain peak (that sharp high peak) look?
That's mount Mil (or Meal or Mill or Meel couldn't find any English reference, in persian it's میل). Height: 3035m from sea level.
Until a month ago, i had climbed it two times. After buying a new bike last year, a new fantasy was born... reaching the peak with the bike. It was not about biking to the peak, it was about taking a photo on the peak with the bike, so wanted to take the bike to the peak, whether riding it or carrying it. The last time i had reached the peak, i was a teenager, and it was a hard task for me, even though wasn't carrying anything heavy. And the last time, i climbed it with family and friends which make it easier. So when i though about climbing it alone with the bike, i know it was going to be hard. In fact considering small chance of being attacked by wild animals in the region, i thought it would be very very hard. But sometimes i don't feel good about my self and the only way to get out of this negative loop (not feeling good about your self, thinking about it and then feeling bad about your self even more because you're not feeling good about your self and...). In these situations, i usually decide to do something stupid. Though not something that i personally think is stupid, but it's considered stupid by most of the people i know.
I went to the village (Kejan) with my family to spend the weekend far from the city (Isfahan). Before sleeping i decided to finally do what i had in my mind for months, climbing mount Mil with the bike. So i woke up at 5 A.M, saying my prayers and making everything ready. By every thing i mean cameras and its accessories and the breakfast. Here's the breakfast:

And i took some dates and water. How popular are these sweet fruits in your country?
At about 6 A.M. everything is in the bag and finally i'm ready to leave the house with about 2.3 liter of water and dozen dates in a hot summer day.
That's the end of part one, the easiest part of this little 12 hour journey.

!STOP!I see so many people here who ride mountain bikes on the road but never even go mountain biking. I guess from this perspective it's more that they would just be better off with a road bike if they're only going to ride it around the city.
Dates aren't very popular. The catering where I worked last week apparently had some dates but I overlooked them. My friend was later raving about how good the dates were!
Last year, when i was thinking which bike fits my needs, first i was going to buy a road bike, because i usually use it in the city, but when i though more deeply, i knew i'm not going to treat it gently, not jumping over the curb, going slow on bumps, and so on, plus i wanted to take my bike out side of the city and use it off road.
But generally mtbs are more popular than road bikes, so it also happens here, people buy mtbs and use them only on roads.
Dates are perfect... . They are generally popular in Iran, but in southern parts of Iran they are much more popular and people ther have a specific name for every kind of date.
I was once one of those people who bought a mtb because they were popular, even though I just wanted something to ride on the road.
Like it happens to everyone, as it happened to @mrprofessor too. (LOL)
though i'm happy with my choice, as you can see in the part two of this post. (and hopefully in videos that i'll upload in a week or two)
