My Curie Curation Journal - Week 3 (Feb. 11 - Feb. 18) Failure to Multi-task Effectively

in #curie7 years ago

As part of my journey here on SteemIt and as a Curie Curator I want to keep a sort of journal of how things goes. My purpose in doing this is to not only keep track of everything I have done, but also to spotlight those that I submitted and had accepted, but also especially the ones that didn't get accepted so they might get a little exposure.

Also, for those out there who are part of the Newbie Resteem Initiative #newbieresteemday, or anyone else who might want to send info on the exceptional posts they find, it might give you an idea of what to be on the lookout for. Of course, don't stay constrained inside a certain box, a certain type, just use these posts as a bit of a guideline.

Failure to Multi-task Effectively

That title pretty much says it all this week, and also explains why I am so late in getting this week's journal posted. This weekend we had another show. This one was in Little Rock, Arkansas which is about 4.5 hours + from us here in the Tulsa area. I was behind on many things to get ready for the show going into the week and it spilled over into my curation. I just simply didn't have enough time to do it all. On the plus side I still managed to get five posts accepted and upvoted. The downside, I also had a few missteps and then Saturday night tried to push a couple through, but probably rushed the process a bit.

Overall I got just five of nine submissions accepted. That comes out to a curator score of just 1.543209877 and bumps me back down to the level where I will have just five submissions this week. However, due to the timing of my submissions from last week the first slot won't open until Wednesday evening, and only three total slots will open in time to get them in this week. This means I have to go 3 for 3 to get back to the 15 submissions level for next week.

My journal post from last week was actually curated by @sneakyninja . After discovering their daily post I decided perhaps it would be a nice outlet for me to submit some of the posts that I come across that don't quite fit the Curie guidelines, but are still great posts that deserve some attention. I did manage to come across two such posts this week and submit them to @sneakyninja. The authors of these posts either had too many previous Curie votes or too high a reputation to have a chance at getting accepted. This @sneakyninja curation can be done by anyone. There are instructions in the post on how to do it. You can submit up to five posts at one time, and you do get paid 1 SBD for each of the posts they include. There is no sign up process or having to be accepted as there is with Curie. You just have to read @sneakyninja's guidelines and use their submission form. You can check out the two posts curated there by visiting this post: The Daily Sneak 19 February 2018 - with guest curator @randomwanderings

One final note about this past week of curation - Around midweek my computer also crashed and I lost the file I keep on a weekly basis with "My Pitch" for each submission in it. So most of this list will not have my pitch listed. More importantly, it was also the one spot I copied and pasted my new password for my new @randomgames account. Still trying to figure out what to do with that. I may have to just start a whole new account for the contests again. Make sure you avoid the #1 SteemIt sin and copy your password to multiple places and protect it! My thought process was, "I am busy. I will just copy it here and then go back to it after the weekend." Well, it backfired because now it is probably gone forever. As is the 6 Steem paid to create the account, and the $7 or so SBD sitting in the account that I will no longer be able to touch if I can't access the account.

As such, this will only be a partial list including mostly the accepted submissions. Next week I will return to the full list like normal.

Now let's get to the list of my submissions.

NOTE: Please remember that some of these posts are all still open. Why not head on over and check them out, upvote them, comment on them, and resteem them?

My first accepted submission for the week, after two rejected ones, was from this amazing artist. They take us step by step through the process of making this extremely realistic looking eye. Even though this post is closed please go check out their other posts as they have continued to share great step by step processes like this.

This next accepted post was a bit out of the norm for a Curie post. My thought process was, why can an entertainment post not be exceptional? It is well-written and gives some great insights into the TV show Game of Thrones and is tailored to those that may have not seen the show before. I think this is proof you don't have to be writing about some great cause, some deeply personal matter, or even creating your own art or music to get a Curie upvote. All you have to do is create great content about your favorite subject matter.

Okay, now back to the amazing causes, deeply personal stories, and original art posts!

First a thanks to @davemccoy who co-runs the Newbie Resteem Initiative #newbieresteemday for alerting me to this post. I am so happy I was able to get this one accepted. Also happy to see the author is doing some of this great work just a few hours away from me, over in Oklahoma City. Although this post is closed make sure you go follow @seaslim and check out the other stories she has already shared since this one.

This next author shares her deeply personal story of an accident that nearly killed her and changed her life forever. She does plan to share more of the story and recovery as well, so stay tuned for more.

Sometimes when combing through the database to find exceptional posts to curate I come across an author or in this case an artist who I think has a lot of potential but perhaps the current post I was looking at doesn't fit the guidelines just right. Then I might spot a post from a week ago, or a month ago that would definitely be accepted if it had been submitted. So, I follow them and sit back and wait, and hope that they do another post that I can submit and get them some recognition. This is one of those cases. I saw this artist's previous posts and hoped he would do another speed drawing video, it was the thing I really wanted to showcase. It didn't take too long! I always love seeing the process behind the art, and when there is a cool timelapse video included, it is even better.

In Conclusion:

This week I finished with 9 submissions and just 5 accepted posts. This coming week I will have just 5 submissions, however, only 3 of them will be opened in time to submit THIS week. I received 50 Steem for the accepted posts.

This coming week's goal is to go 3 for 3 and get back to the 15 submission level for the following week, and then hopefully stay at that level or higher.

I urge you to go check out @sneakyninja 's curation setup. Perhaps you aren't sure if you want to try to become a curator for Curie, or you just don't have the time to. This could be the route you can take to still help get great content and authors "discovered". Plus you do get paid 1 SBD for each post they accept. I know many are looking for ways to up their wallet value or to find a way to increase their Steem Power, well here is yet another way to do that.

Now please go forth and create great content. And if you create it or find it somewhere feel free to alert me to it. You can find me on Discord @randomwanderings #9929 . Also let me know if you have any questions.

Once again, remember some of the submitted posts listed above are still open and can be upvoted. Go visit them, enjoy their posts, upvote, resteem, and maybe follow these great authors.

I am going to push what you and @curie and @sneakyninja are doing... You are really giving hope to the undiscovered newbies and I'm excited to help you all :)

good post

this one is better than the other one... A WINNER big time!!! I hope you like it...

Was this one supposed to include a link as well?

yes lol... hold on

I actually really like them both. "Travel" is such a hard category to judge. Apparently a lot of them get submitted, so they sort of judge them at a higher standard. If this were a week where I had any room for error (a week where I have 15 submissions) I would probably try either of them. This week though I will have just 3 submissions, and they ALL have to be accepted to unlock 15 for next week. If I miss even one I will be stuck at 5 again next week.

But I have followed her and will keep an eye on her posts. They really are great. For now, I was about to submit some more to sneakyninja and will include one of them with that.

Also, for future reference - for Curie it has to be under 24 hours old. Which the first one would have fit, but this River Kwai one wouldn't have.

And thank you for keeping your eye out for the good posts!

you're welcome and I look at my job as trying to match you with them. So no worries if you can't do anything with them... I just know what I like and if I think its good then I want to help you and them. So thanks for looking and for paying attention!!! Have a good day, I'm off to bed finally :)

she did it again... just giving you a heads up if it fits with you!

I nearly submitted her Cambodia post from last night, but then spotted the pics were previously on her Instagram. Then while checking this Nepal one...a bit too long to make sure they were all new, another curator submitted it. On the plus side though, the posted did get the vote!

awesome! I appreciate you explaining to me the things you find right/wrong too, it helps me to understand how they work! Thanks Gene!

Yes, definitely. If there are any questions let me know. Like I said the previous 3 had the issue that she had posted them on her Instagram at some point. If they had been posted elsewhere within the last seven days it can be worked around usually. Luckily this newest one she hadn't posted any of them. Sad it took me too long to realize, but again, at least she got the vote and recognition.

I'm really happy you found me. Lol.

And I also saw that that post by @seaslim few days ago. What she does is very nice and an interesting thing to do.

Now am gonna be checking on the rest of your curated posts. :) I've also been seeing that @sneakyninja but haven't really bothered abt it until reading this post

I know content, length, and story may not be what is typically 'selected'. I just wanted to send the love along. I haven't had much time to look around, but will sure to let you know if I see any good ones out there.
