Working Title (Minnow Support Writing Curation)

Sorry to have missed last week- I traveled to Kansas City for @luthvarian's baby shower, and steemfest was obviously impacting the number of postings. But back to the grind! November is National Novel Writing Month, where writers commit to writing a 50,000 word manuscript throughout the month. Quite a few members of the freewriting community are participating, and creating some great work based on the prompts. This is dedicated to all those crazy writers who are working through the challenge!

It had pointed ears like an elf, and was tall and wiry like one, too. But it had wings like a fairy, wings that looked too small to support its weight, yet that kept it aloft. It darted up and caught a dead hummingbird that was flitting about, darted back down to directly in front of Tibault, and bit the head off the hummingbird with sharp fangs. Tibault watched, fascinated. This unknown being, also dead, chewed the hummingbird’s head with great animation, while the now extra dead hummingbird body, still in the palm of the creature’s hand, regrew its head, shook a little, then flitted off again.

Nanowrimo Installment 7 by @stinawog feels like a cross between a hallucinogenic dream (emphasized by the name of the setting: Mushroomia), and a Shakespearean Midsummer mythology.

“Well what about chuck roast? Does that come from beef or does that come from Chuck?” Sally’s innocent question seemed to settle in the air between them. Her mama looked across room at Sally’s father, trying to look innocent as he ate his dinner.

Don't Play with Your Food by @byn is a short story with a bit of a twist. Byn is taking part in NaNoWriMo, although I don't think she counted this short story in her word count (an impressive feat, to write an additional story on top of the required word count!).

Was it the prospect of having Abigail tag along to the visit to the funeral home this morning? Was it anxiety about seeing the body of his dead father, when a few hours ago he had been attacked by four men who had looked and sounded just like him?

The Many Torments of Tiny Earl Ch 15 by @felt.buzz brings up a lot of questions, and makes me curious about the series as a whole. I appreciate the characterization and the glimpse into the writing process included at the beginning of the post.

“Just because I’m going away to school?” Leah cried. She picked up her dance bag and slung it over her shoulder. Her voice trembled as she went on. “I know what’s wrong with you, Clarissa. You’re jealous,” Leah accused suddenly.

Day 13 or 17 of Nanowrimo by @ireenchew includes a fascinating little clip of her work, as well as some background into what goes in to writing for NaNoWriMo.

Oh, it talks, she thought. Of course it talks. “Yeah well,” she began, “No offense? But you do have kind of a… you know. Kind of a phallic shape.” She spoke that last part in an exaggerated stage whisper, as if she were purposely outing one of the snake’s more embarrassing secrets in front of an audience of detractors.

Just a Dream by @bennettitalia is at turns amusing to creepy to full on terrifying.
