Does Everyone Own Cryptocurrency?

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

Until around a year and a half ago I was blissfully unaware of the investment potential of cryptocurrencies. All I had heard of was Bitcoin and nothing else. There was a fair bit of news about Bitcoin but most of it showed it in a bad light. Most people stayed away from it but did read news of it when something came up on the news portals.

Come 2017 and Bitcoin value surged so much that all eyes were on the charts. A lot of people jumped on to the Bitcoin bandwagon. The value of Bitcoin increased to the extent that small investors could not afford to buy a substantial amount of it. This was when attention turned towards altcoins and Ethereum, Litecoin and others became popular.

Altcoins started gaining in value due to the investments made by crypto enthusiasts. Many of the new coins had good offerings in terms of technology especially transaction speeds. This was a crucial favor as Bitcoin speed was slowing down and investors were looking at offerings that had more transaction speed.

Another observation is that those who have a higher level of education are more likely to have invested in crypto. This stands true if people who are more tech savvy or have a tech background. People who are tech challenged may have trouble understanding the concept behind the various offerings especially the fine print described in the documentation.

Unless people are surveyed it is difficult to know how many people have invested in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The secretive nature and confidentiality associated with crypto investments has also given credence to the belief that they are used for illegal purposes.

The volatility associated with cryptos has prevented cautious investors from putting their money in it. Also the fact that apart from Bitcoin and Ethereum there are not many others that are accepted as a form of payment for goods and services. This will change in the coming years and cryptocurrency investments will be a part of every investor's portfolio
