What do you pride yourself on? - STEEMIT CONTEST - Week 1

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone!

Time for my very first contest! Each week I will ask one question and I would love for you guys to share your answers and experience.

I am starting by giving away 1 SBD to the winner of the best comment.. but as time goes on this money will increase and I will have runners up too. As it's the first time doing this, best to start small!

The question this week is:

What do you pride yourself on?

Let me kick this off..

I pride myself on always being the most hardworking person in the room. That might sound totally arrogant, but it's more of a goal. I presume that I am the most hard-working because I know the hours I put into everything I do. If there is someone there who I perceive as MORE hard-working than me.. well that's pure goals. I'll take that and use it as fuel to work harder, develop more, learn more.

WHAT IS THE CONTEST:

Each week I will ask one question which is focussed on self development or progression. The idea is to inspire you, by reading other people's posts, and to perhaps in some ways help you re-focus.

RULES:

1. Upvote the post - this is the beginning of this contest and I don't know how it's going to go. But by upvoting we'll have more money to spread around.
2. Comment a direct answer to the question
3. Comment on one other person's comment with either a thoughtful question or thoughtful reply. Please avoid answers such as 'nice' 'cool' etc.

SIMPLE. The winner will receive 1 SBD for week 1.

I will distribute the money 7 days after this post has expired. You have 7 days to take part!

Good luck and do help to share the contest so we can grow it and get some cash out there to you steemians!

I pride myself for being an introvert. Everyday I used to beat myself up for being this way but as I grew up I learned that I had passion and goals which many people lacks. I learned that I am a humble person and a good listener which many people has praised me for. I'm trusted by many. That's what I'm proud for.

It is very common particularly for women to beat themselves up when they look at other women who are more beautiful, successful, etc. I have learned along the way that learning to love myself just the way I am is the first sign of acceptance as each of us are unique and we are gifted in many ways that sets us apart from the other person. When we learn to accept ourselves for who we are, we inadvertently open the door for others to love us too

@karinzdailygrind I'm completely with you! I think we all have some elements of this. Learning to love ourselves is a long process, but completely necessary.

Hello from a fellow introvert! I have a very extroverted older sister, so I had trouble growing up thinking something was a little off about me. As an adult, I have finally realized we just have different gifts (and different needs socially). I'm happy you have come to the same conclusion. Being able to truly listen to others is a very valuable skill indeed, so that is a wonderful trait to be proud of!

Yes very true. Its not that we do not seek social life. It's just that we have hard time bonding with people. It's takes little more time. I'm sure you can relate. :)

Absolutely! I can definitely relate. It may take a little longer to develop close relationships, but I have found they are much richer for it!

I love that. Finding happiness in the way you are and accepting who we are is HUGE. Well done you for accepting yourself and finding pride in that.

Thank you for letting me express myself :)

Being good listener is an incredibly useful skill to have! There is still room for improvement on my end :-)

I pride myself on being an efficient and self dependent new mum... Well at least for Now. I had my doubts and thought I wouldn't be able to do this and will have a nervous breakdown. But I have amazed myself this time! It can be construed as patting ones own back for nothing but hell I know this is hard work! It makes my heart swell with pride to see my bub growing up. :=)

You really should take pride in that! Mothers, especially new ones, are a part of society neglected and undervalued by most. It seems people are either annoyed by new mothers and birthing babies in general or consider it to be something that is expected and now that you did your due shut up and get out of folks site. I see moms ridiculed across the spectrum if they take pride or post pics and anecdotes with the babies or shushed and shunned if they complain or ask for help. I hope you find your tribe of women to help you out at times. It is SO HARD to raise new humans. So congrats to you! You go, girl!

You just made my day. Thank you. It feels amazing that I am getting words of encouragement from across borders :) Here's a big hug! Now I will get back to nursing my sprained neck and tending to a super active toddler and a feline friend to boot!

That's incredible @swati-s and something you SHOULD be totally proud of. What an incredible achievement. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to be a mother and all of the pressures which you must feel. You sound like you really are doing an amazing job an what an impactful thing that is. Good for you!!!

Thanka a lot Yasmine. Glad I got an opportunity to express this through your contest. Was hesitant to make a blog out of it.

Good luck with the contest girl !!!
I don't know if it's 'fair' for me to participate haha so I'll be brief...
I guess what makes me proud in life [besides my education/knowledge, especially in languages] is the fact that I am REAL. I am obnoxiously honest, direct to the point that diplomacy goes and takes a walk without me ahahaha !!! But I'm true and ME -so I don't think I wanna change that about me! I'm proud to be myself, to be Greek and to have a family who never taught me to hide! :)

Yaaaaas to the realness! I love the real! The real feelings, the real mess and honesty! So needed in today's world of Insta perfection.

So happy you've contributed, lady! I love that and I think it's so important to be as honest as possible. Some people might not like it, but actually i'm all for obnoxiously honest! Much better than the opposite!

Totally agreed!!! :D

The thing that makes me proud of myself is that I can encourage and energize the postive things for myself. I can advise myself when I faced a problem, and being thankfull for the strength i have.
I would prefer to think from the other side of the victim, and put myself at the position as the one will be asked for a solution to a problem, not as the one who got the problem. I have to think clearly and would be as objective as possible to advise myself.
Although sometime that is not easy and felt really painful at the same time, but I believe that something that is true must be lived even if it hurts.
However, of course I still have the supports from many lovely people around me. I believe that because of their love, then I can be someone like this.
I always tell myself that everything happens for reasons, and I believe in God that he will always give me the strenght in any situation; it can be through anything around me. That is why i can handle almost all of the problems in mylife. Then if I can't, i will let it be.

That is very important. The way we think and look at the world determines everything we do. It's crucial. Thanks for sharing this one!

To have the ability to encourage and bring positive energy is a powerful skill indeed!

I pride myself in having a strong desire to consistently grow and stretch myself beyond my comfort zone. The need to constantly reflect and to iterate forms the core engine of what keeps me on the move.

If someone wants to learn what failure, growth, success, pain and anxiety is, be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is all that rolled into one and more.

And hopefully, 5 years from now he/she will be able to look back and say it was worth it.

YES lady! I am totally with you on this one! We need to be our own biggest motivator.

Great idea, Yas! Love how engaging your posts have become! I know I missed this but guess I pride myself on being so bloody organised with anything I do in my life which in return has given me a great deal of motivation all these years. Look forward to seeing your next contest question!

Thanks Ings! Again.. super jealous of your organisational skillzzzzz.

I pride myself of being able to always keep an open mind to new things, new technologies, new ideology. This has caused me pains many times in the pass, but the gains far outweights the pains. So far, at least.

I am grateful to have lots of good people around me, giving good advice both when I am not bold enough or too bold. At the end of the day, I must make my own decisions, as I own my own words, I own my own life.

To be open-minded to new things requires courage, which is scarce nowadays, as changes usually accompany fear and uncertainty. I am proud I own a little of courage, and would like to share it with my fellow Malaysians. Afterall, a nation is just not unlike a person, it may fear uncertainty, it may hesitate to step forward, it will need courage to change.

Hats off to you, this is certainly a great quality to have! Thanks for sharing this with us!

I take pride in my kids. I thought about not going there, and being all liberal and cool and saying something like intellect, knowledge or volunteering (knhm knhm...humble brag...) or even my sarcasm, but I really don't have anything else in life I take more pride in then them! They are brilliant young ladies. They are artistic, love to play, smart, sharp, punny (and funny too ;) ), they love to play and love each other, they are good friends, they are kind to animals, they are proactive when they want to change, they don't hold grudges, they try their best, when they fall they get up and they love unconditionally. They are good in Minecraft. They are fluent in English and they can say a few words in German and Spanish too. I mean, if they weren't mine I'd still want to be their friend, for real. So...yeah...me producing those little souls is the thing I take most pride in.

@big.mama that's completely beautiful. They sound like exceptional girls. Well done you for raising such an awesome family!

I pride myself on having a spine. Sometimes too much of it in fact. When I was 13, I was bullied by a boy. He either pulled my hair or kicked my chair on a daily basis. A few weeks later after I had enough of nonsense, I decided to join the school's Taekwondo Club. Then, I caught him off-guard by chance so I slapped him in the face. Shocked by my sudden outburst of courage, he quit bullying me after that. I received my black belt at age 16. Thank goodness I did not ask for parental intervention because years later research showed that bullying got worse for teenagers who could not manage their problems. Now, I don't recommend slapping bullies because there are CCTVs around so one can get into serious legal trouble. I suggest that one invites the bully for an official round of sparring to get it all out of the system once and for all.

Wow @wittywheat! Good for you to standing up to that bully. This really hit home with me because my nephew is now 15 and still gets bullied quite badly. It 's horrendous to watch, but like you said.. I think having adults involved only makes it worse. He is starting a journey now towards figuring this out for himself and for him that's also through fitness! Thanks for sharing this. No doubt, you'll help many people with you story and journey.

Thank you @yasminep for your kind comments. I like that your nephew is channeling his frustration into sports. He might make the country proud by qualifying for the Olympics. Who knows? :-) For parents who are concern about constructive ways to help their kids develop, one can consider visiting a child psychologist. They are very professional in helping kids or teenagers developing effective strategies to deal with bullies. All the best to your nephew! I know he'll survive this and grow up to be a fine gentleman :-)

Thank you. I will suggest that to my sister. Appreciate your words :-)

I pride myself on the fact that u multitask, as much as i will always love to do something leg and be free both financially, emotionally and all.. I do art, design, web programming and learn barbing, an activist during undergraduate.. If i see some one as me i am always happy...

I feel it is good to be able to handle different aspects of work and life generally.

YES @jetto ! great to see you can do so many things and stay positive about it. I actually just wrote an article about eustress. Perhaps that's why you're able to do so much! Keep it up and great comment.

Well done! I wish I could multitask as well as you do :-)

It is all about determination .... And anything u know to do, do it well

Thank you for your kind advice @jetto :-)
