I was inspired by the #introduceyourhometown contest to go out and explore my own community deeper. As a result I have begun to post under the #hiddenplaces tag sights that meet at least one of the following criteria;
Off the beaten path
Everyone knows where the touristy places are, but we often miss the beauty of our community that requires stepping off the beaten path, exploring a nook or an alleyway, or getting a little out of town.
Example: The Zoro GardenNo longer there
Original older pictures of sights and places that have changed, historic or beautiful things that have been removed.
Example: Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorNot accessible to the general public
Places that are interesting, but require special permission to access. Places that used to be open to the public, but are now closed for safety reasons. (NOTE: DO NOT TRESPASS OR PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER)
Example: Adobe Falls

I'm doing this to promote the tag #hiddenplaces and to foster the spirit of community and discussion. Winner will be determined by the post that gets the highest number of valuable comments AND upvotes

thank you so much kind of made my night after a neighbor threw something on our property that we didn't see in the grass that broke our lawnmowers belt so we didn't get our land finished mowed and now are out $40

what do you mean by "win" the booster vote? Is there a cutoff point for the lowest weighted posts?
If I read the post right, you are "bidding" to get one of the votes at a reasonable weight. If your bid isn't high enough, you don't get the upvote and you're refunded.

I like this idea! I know of plenty hidden places. Not sure about the comments and Upvotes yet, though. I'm seeing some pretty blah stuff getting tons of votes and comments with only a handful of followers and winning competitions, so from what I have seen so far, I think having someone judge the content may be a better idea. There are also bots for voting and commenting that people use. Here are your two cents back. LOL!

The way I am planning to judge was based on engagement. It is very difficult for a bot to make thoughtful comments that encourage participation.
Of course, I will have to get entries to judge anything ...

However, if the way to determine the winner would be the number of upvotes and (meaningful) comments received, wouldn't this introduce a bias towards the entries that are posted earlier rather than closer to the deadline?
Yes and no. I'm not going straight count on it, I'm averaging it over the number of days the post is active.

Thanks for this post..too late for me to enter but will enjoy reading others posts. I my self love going out into the forest, driving dirt roads or simply taking roads I have nevr been down. always try to remember my camera and even worse, I get so engrossd and consumed by the beauty I discover, I forget or choose not to use my camera. some things are just better embracing the moment.

Thanks timeshiftarts, I could do with a road trip but weather has been back and forth with it being hurricane season here. Looks like we should be having some nice weather here as soon as Fernando fizzles out of range. maybe I will give it a shot and head up some the mountain roads I have been dying to explore.
