The way Crypto reshaped my life and gave me more freedom - [Contest Entry]

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

It was a warm summerevening, 2016. I had only just found out about the amount of information the internet offers in so many ways. I wondered if there was a way to make money online, given the amount of ease I show when translating things or writing articles. That's when I started on Freelancer, trying to make a little bit of money, but it quickly turned out to be less desirable than I had hoped it to be. The main problem was that it required ID verification to profit in the best possible way. Any other site or method I tried didn't work either, because really everything required ID verification and Paypal also didn't make it really easy for non-verified accounts.

That was when I found out about Bitcoin. I started on this place called "Bitcointalk". Bitcoin had just risen to just under $1000 in August 2016 and I found it was a very interesting thing. I then started translating and writing articles for some bounty projects, joined Signature Campaigns and actively learned about various Cryptocurrencies on the forum.

And that is exactly what gave me more freedom in my life. No longer was I restricted to certain pre-determined values I may not pass, no longer was there a constant possibility of my funds being locked in an account and no way to get them out... Cryptocurrencies therefore gave me a safe way of making some extra money and also gave me more freedom on when I wanted to "work". I could choose very exactly when I wanted to participate in certain Bounty/Signature Campaigns and when I didn't. I could now buy thing online much more easily too, which was a wonderful change in my life.

The next summer, around July 2017, I found out about Steemit. A user called @luxio initially told me about the site and I immediately liked it. It was far less profitable than Signature/Bounty campaigns on Bitcointalk, but I had a lot of fun communicating with others and writing about whatever I wanted to write about. I joined various communities here on Discord too and found a lot of others to converse with. At Bitcointalk there was always the restriction on what I had to write about. It was always about projects, whilst Steemit gave me more freedom in that and allowed me to write about whatever I wanted to write about.

That's how Crypto gave me more freedom in time management, buying products online, doing what I like to do and communication with others. My life would have been a lot different without Crypto :-)

Hi, congrats on your entry to #coruscate-contest, it was a good read. I hadn't come across the Freelancer or Bitcointalk sites before, which you've mentioned in your entry, but then again, I came from a social networking angle, rather than a blogging or crypto angle. If you'd like to see my entry to this competition, it is available here. All the best for your entry. 🤞

Just checked it.. Well written! I was also diagnosed with asperger and the online world also makes life easier for me as well.

Hey, thanks for reading my post. It's funny, isn't it, how neurotypical people so often complain that the impersonality of online communications prevent the accurate transmission of non-verbal cues and therefore reduce comprehension, yet for us the exact opposite occurs, for the very same reasons, haha.

That's a great story! :-) Glad you found the Steem Blockchain!

Thank you ;)
