Fractal Writing Contest #10, and winners of the previous one.

in #contest7 years ago

The NINTH Fractal Writing Contest is over. There were 6 contestants this time, a rather low number that makes me think that creativity has decreased in the steem blockchain! And now, you have to prove me wrong. We had a short story, poems, and haikus -- but no picture, and I'd really like to see one as a follow-up to the fractal or something even remotely related to it. Most people saw something connected to the circle-of-life; for me, it was something more sinister, it looked like the horrid Pallid Mask of the theatrical play the King in Yellow as mentioned by Robert Chamber.

A newcomer, @kaelci, submitted a great short story (!) of a grand religious moment in a fantastic realm and gets the 1st prize for such a creative entry. There are promises of a sequel, too, and I am thrilled to read the next chapter, or the previous or anything in that setting!

The contest post expired with a payout of 2.353 SBD, and the rewards are as follows:

USERPLACEREWARDENTRY
@kaelci1st1.2 SBDshort story
@emdesan2nd0.6 SBDhaiku
@warpedpoetic3rd0.6 SBDpoem

Congratulations to all participants and a big thank you to all upvoters. I'd like to see more participation in these contests and get a bigger reward pool to distribute, so it would be helpful to resteem and/or upvote. If there are enough SBDs made by the contest post, I will try to reward more winners.

By the way -- I was thinking of sending printouts of the fractal to the winners instead of SBD rewards, but I have to check out how to do it first; online on-demand print services, perhaps? If anyone has any suggestions feel free to post them.

This week, the TENTH installment of the Fractal Writing Contest will run.

The Contest

Each post in this contest series will contain a fractal, a 2-dimensional representation of a complex mathematical formula. The participants have to post a comment with something inspired by the fractal, be it just a title, a haiku, a story, whatever.

Rules

  • You have to reply with a comment in the contest post.
  • The reply must be inspired by the fractal, but no explanation needed.
  • Any kind of content is acceptable: just a title, a haiku, a poem, a short story, a painting, a photo, a video, a doodle, whatever. The content must be yours, no links to other people's work accepted.
  • I will pick the best reply, when the post expires (1 week after posting it).
  • The winner gets half the SBD made in the post, minimum 1 SBD. The rest are split to the other winners: if there are enough SBDs made by the contest post, I will try to reward a 2nd- and 3rd- place winner, as well.
  • Upvotes and resteems are welcomed, but not necessary to participate.

An haiku....my entry

It's an erosion of Peace
That travels through space in few minutes
here to shake the world

Excellent haiku, a real world-shaker!

Hi - here is my entry:

The Creation of Life

Energy abounds
Drawing light from all around
New life is forming

Thank you, that's a nice haiku, fitting well to the image.

birth from a death
It isn't intricate
if you investigate
The spans of universe
the dying and living stars
All came to be in a flash
From a leak with a splash
something lost all its it
it is now all of us.

Yeah, a blast destroying the previous state and ushering the new reality -- very good entry, thank you!

The great Wyrm of the Deep slithers through the dark water, the gaping wound of time and space bleeding brightly. What untold horrors will this beast call forth from the outer reaches of the universe, anxious to visit its vengence upon unbelievers?

I hope we don't get to know more about its vengeance! Thanks for your entry.

A rift is a rift, no matter the Drift.
The people in charge, they always wanna sift.

But listen to me, those who are still free-
On the planet of Skrii, under the ruler TanZee.

There's a way out, for those who are stout.
Yeah, I got clout I've SEEN the great Trout.
Don't you dare doubt, or I wouldn't still be here to spout!

The risks are great, but paradise awaits.
Through that gate, you can leave behind all their hate.

That's why I say, seize the day.

Or seize that rift...

Fuck their lies about "Drift"
I plan to be free, maybe you agree.
We'll enter on the lee, that is, if you follow me.

:) wow, Space-rap rocks!!

Look, people have to know about the Great Trout, I am but a vessel

2nd Prize Winner! more info in the new contest post.

@moneyinfant has added your contest to the list Steemit Writing Contests: Issue #54. The list is updated on a daily basis and your contest will remain on the list until its expiration - there's nothing you need to do.

The list was created to save writers the excessive amount of time spent searching through the #contest tag for writing contests. Now they can just come to the list each day, see new contests and use their time doing what they love - writing.

If you'd like to help spread the word about the Steemit Writing Contest List I'd really appreciate a resteem, but it certainly isn't necessary. The project is simply meant to help writers save time and contest creators attract more contestants.

P.S. If you know of any contests I've missed I'd love to hear about them. Thanks!

Yes, I like it, wise words indeed. The title for the fractal could be "Beautiful Sage, Fierce Dragon." Thanks for your entry!

Yes that is a nice title - But I think the fractal still reminds me of a dragon in a state of rest "lotus"

Welcome, and thanks for your entry. It is a thrilling short story, the birth of a hero, and a prologue to who knows how many more legends!

This looks like a really cool contest! Glad I found it... Here is my entry inspired by that beautiful fractal image https://steemit.com/fractal/@ablaze/it-lasted-walk-into-the-light

Great poem, dreamy and really in the same vibe as the image - thanks for participating!
