The Fractal Writing Contest #10: The Awakening.

Talang woke up to a persistent rumble. "Could it be an earthquake?" he thought in fear.

His brother and mother slept on dead to the world. He got out of bed and went outside.

He felt drawn to the forest on the edge of the village. He walked on like a zombie directed by unknown forces.

He entered the forest, heart pounding in fear or excitement, he wasn't sure.
Then he saw it!

There on the ground, close to the rock he and his friends play, a ball of light was rising, increasing as it slowly rose, pulsing with energy.

He wasn't scared, rather he was fascinated. It was beautiful, expanding and soon he could make out a little shape in the midst of the light.

It was a lot like a mishapen animal and it was increasing in size.

Suddenly, the light increased in intensity, blinding so he had to cover his face.

When he looked up, he saw a creature huge and fearsome, similar to a dragon with huge wings.

It was a draken! The first in over a hundred years and he had just witnessed it birth.

The gods were indeed merciful in this time of peril to send help.

He went forward to touch it, half expecting to be trampled by those great legs built like the trunk of the der tree.
It felt soft to touch and suddenly, he felt it! The connection was established.

The draken has chosen its rider.
Talang has been chosen!
Talang, the draken rider, avenger of evil.
It was this way, the legend was born.
