Constrained Writing Contest #13- Shimmer's Morning

This week's contest is made, and will be judged by @foragingquietude, and these are their rules.

Write a story with at least 1 speaking animal
The story must not be set in a zoo, pet store or an aquarium
Each animal’s vocabulary consists of only 20 unique words. They cannot learn words anew, but they can use words with different meanings to count as 1 word (example: squash, can be used as “a squash” – a vegetable, or “to squash” – a verb meaning to crush) and they can form plurals and past tenses of words. They can, for example say “use, using, used” and it only counts as 1 unique word
The story must be at least 250 words long

It was normal day, much like any other day, Shimmer thought. She stretched her tired, golden paws; each toe deliberately separated to make what she thought of as a Chinese throwing star. A weapon to use against her attackers; if they had the nerve.

Shimmer was much of a hero in these parts. Sure, she would take the time to kill a mouse from time to time, but for the most part, she was calm, cool and collected. A few of the cats in these parts knew the wrath of Shimmer. Lately though, she felt lazier.

Looking at her tail, she wagged it, but then sighed. She remembered the days when she would chase her tail for hours, but now the thrill is gone. The sun shined through the window, which meant the human, Sally was awake. Time to train her, Shimmer thought.

Shimmer walked up to her human, jumped up on to the counter. “Food.” She said, and then twirlled around, being sure to get Sally’s attention with a bump of her hip.

“Good morning Shimmer. How is the sweetest kitty in the whole world?” Sally patted Shimmer on the head, and the turned away to make coffee.

Shimmer sighed. This was not going the way I had hoped, she thought. Again, she walked over to Sally. This time she used more of a hip bump, and added a flick of her tail; to be sure that Sally noticed her. Suddenly the bag of coffee fell to the floor.

“Shimmer I don’t have time for this. I know you are the best kitty in the world, but I need you to go find something else to do, while I get ready for work.”

“Food.” Shimmer said, as she waited for Sally to clean up her mess.

Again, Shimmer was ignored. Sally finished setting up the coffee maker and walked into the bedroom. Shimmer followed quick as she could, being sure to cross before Sally got to the entrance of the room.

“One of these days, Shimmer, you are going to trip me, and then who will take care of you?” Shimmer walked in between her legs, looked up at Sally and then meowed, “Food”.

“I don’t have time to pet the kitty right now. I need to get in the shower.”

Shimmer sat outside the bedroom listening to the water run in the shower. She tapped her tail with impatience. The second that she heard the water stop, Shimmer peeked her head in the door. Sally was paying attention to the shinny thing above the sink. Surely, she knows I have not eaten yet, Shimmer thought.

Shimmer jumped on to the sink, and then walked back and forth. Before long, she would starve to death. It was very important to have Sally feed her before she leaves for work, or else the daytime would go on forever.

Sally walked away from Shimmer again. Shimmer noticed Sally had put on her shoes and was headed to the door. “I’ll see you later Shimmer. Have a good day!”

“Oh, please don’t tell me you are going to leave me here all day with no damn food.”

Sally stopped in her tracks.

Finally, Shimmer thought, it’s about time she understood me.

“Did I forget to feed you? Let me get that for you.”
