Has The Community Gone Crazy?

$20ish dollars for dirty markers and a child's crinkled coloring?

Upvoting comments to the extreme.

I know there are whale tensions and other things playing out.  This is just too weird.

This is why I don't put much time or effort into Steemit posting. The voting disparity feels so frigging unjust and opaque that the system defies any sort of convincing elevator pitch to a potential new user.

As a new Steemian I do not understand what guilds are about if they are not looking for quality content.
https://steemit.com/art/@rubens9119/flowing-strokes-drawing-130 Is an artist I would think would get more votes than he has. Steemit must not be looking for content if guilds are missing quality works like rubens9119 and other artists on Steemit. As a new person should I be joining guilds to be seen?

Guilds can have various different objectives. Some may encourage simple link shares or cat gifs, while others may seek out only the best original content. Curie's aim, for example, is to reward and retain new authors. You'll see that Curie has voted on @rubens9119 several times, but the project has a limited budget and resources, and cannot vote on every single deserving post. On a related note, one of Curie's aims is to retain new authors, and reward them for persistence. I can see that the link mentioned in the OP is the original work (though not substantial in itself) of an author who has been trying hard for weeks and has been totally ignored. That seems to fit with Curie's motto of rewarding persistent authors who bring value to Steemit, and retaining them before they give up and leave.

The project votes on thousands of post a month, and it's perhaps unnecessary to single out a post that was not voted on, or a post that was voted on but was marginal.

All posts are submitted to Curie by the community. You can do so here - https://streemian.com/guild/curie (Guidelines are available in #curie on Steemit.chat)

There's a Finder's fee of 8 Steem available for every successful submission.

That's how the guild works - instead of voting on a good post yourself and giving it a few cents, you can give it a whale's upvote, and in return for your service, receive a whale's curation reward.

Thanks. That's helpful.

Hopefully, someone will answer your question. I haven't joined any guilds or given my posting key to anyone to do automatic voting for me. I am also not here for short-term posting rewards. If that was my goal, I would have likely approached things differently.

There are different types of goals and users. All are okay, I just don't know much about getting the most from rewards. Check out who the Authors are on the trending pages each day, and they would likely be able to give you advice. :)

Welcome. Don't pay too much attention to the craziness. Much of it will come out in the wash.

So far I have come to love this community. Thank you so much for your quick response. I am following you and look forward to your posts.

Remember it is a young community and have fun. :) I will follow you back.

Wow there are a lot of responses. I didn't know this so I posted my own test to see if I could be seen and get upvotes like the child's coloring book. https://steemit.com/art/@pitterpatter/will-my-art-be-seen-if-i-m-not-in-a-guild

Beautiful art. Thanks for sharing.

I assure you it's above Curie's pay grade. Someone else's proxies are fighting things out. :)

@curie is listed as a voter? Actually, you voted on it as well @donkeypong

My votes are with Curie. If they voted it, I'll trust it had some redeeming value. Not going to bother checking, though.

lol, okay, I only singled you out, because of your comment about it being above curie's pay grade. Check it or not. It is a child's coloring and some dirty markers. :) Cheers, nothing personal in my post.

But we need the guilds!!!

Prozac for everyone.

You know, I hope, I haven't been for the guilds or any of the other Group voting schemes from the beginning.

Why do we need guilds?

We don't. They're a huge waste of resources and give users the wrong impression about what social media actually is. This isn't supposed to be a redistributionist scheme. Steemit isn't supposed to be a UBI.

That's an extreme reaction. There's nothing wrong with the idea of delegated curation; indeed it will be legitimized in Hardfork 17. Of course, like everything else, there'll be bad ones and good ones, while most will fit shades of grey. A redistributionist scheme is more debatable than a guild that seeks out content that adds value to and engages the Steemit community.

Streemian has a pretty good system set up. I'm looking forward to an open Guild which will act more as a content discovery platform. Vote on posts you like from the submissions, or not. That doesn't even need a delegation, in fact.

@ats-david was being sarcastic :)

I guess it's possible that everyone on Steemit who I don't know, and don't vote for me are classless simpletons, but it's probably bots, and alternate self votes. Don't get me wrong, the coloring was pretty good, but the artist might try putting a little more muscle into it.

I don't know how long it will last if people keep milking the reward pool dry, but I saw a post today that yesterday there were 1305 active users, which is up 3% since 28 days ago. So that's good. https://steemit.com/steempunks/@darkflame/active-users-yesterday-1305

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to incentivize not using the reward pool as a personal piggy bank?

Simpletons the lot of them. lol.

I have grandkids and drawer full of old colorings that are kind of crinkled up. I am kind of a stickler for keeping the markers clean.

At least I can use this post as an example of what curie wants to see more of on SteemIt!

:) There is a stranger than usual vibe 'round here.

Sumthin's 'bouta happen, ya think? I thought it was just a lull. I haven't seen a good content war, or seen anyone try to imitate a Japanese research vessel for a week. Is the comment voting relatively new? I haven't been paying attention to the corruption around here for a little while, and have lost track of all the enmities and thievery. It can't be ignored entirely, but I'm getting better at it. At least a&&hole and blacklist are leaving me alone. It's too bad too. I was gonna put a hex on 'em, had the rooster lined up an' everything. Just kiddin'.

I have been trying not to pay too much attention either. Just today seemed even more unusual than ever.

The one thing I have been watching is the Steem Guild and their self-voters. That one matters to me a lot more than the others, because it is at least partially related to the founders and SteemIt, Inc. So, IMO has a bigger impact on the trust an investor may have in this thing. I am not sure, but it seemed they were voting their own comments in response to whale flags they have been receiving.

I don't know. The wind smells kind of steemy. ;)

I think as long as I'm not Jonah or Ahab in this picture, I'll be okay. I had much higher hopes for Steemit, but I think this is it, another social media platform with the money making monopolized by a few.

I think I'll just entertain and pass on info, until I find something else.

I fell in love with the idea. Got a little sad/mad when it felt like it wasn't going well. Now I am less emotional and just interested in the experiment.

Well. Exact same sentiments here. Just made a post expressing my disappointment about it. Still going to stick around though

Well - well - they have not started to upvote the comments. Then we will all need Prozac.

Will definitely be interesting to see how people learn to game that system. I meant... Earn.

Money to be made - learn the system and forget the philosophy

me and a friend were just talking about this lol

Pretty obviously crazy.

you have taken it to far.
lol

How dare you question this ?

The guild members are working so hard, day and night to make this platform better for everyone ! The improvement they have achieved can be clearly seen, as it reflects on the price of Steem.

You must be either a troll or simply jealous.

I recommend you work harder on your own content.

How dare she??

This is a joke right?

I wondered that too. I am thinking it was a joke. ;)

German humor.

Sorry :(

Yeah, I thought so. No worries.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This real painting I like very much made a little bit more, so the voting isn't all bad.
