【Story Café 心情咖啡馆】#8 I Can Speak 8 languages 我会说8种语言

Yes, this is real, don’t be the surprise.
是的，这是真的，不要被吓到。

Two of our photographer friends from Hong Kong were visiting Malaysia and they feel so surprised when knew that local Chinese are able to speak several languages. They heard about our advantage in several languages, but they didn't expect more than they thought, haha. It is true that most Malaysian Chinese can speak several languages.
两位认识的香港摄影师来马旅游顺道拍摄，非常惊讶本土华裔可以说上好多种不同的语言，他们对于我们的多种语言列有所闻，只是没想到比想象的更多，哈哈。确实大多数的马来西亚华人都会说上几种语言，这些都是真的。

In fact, most of Malaysian Chinese have the basic three languages at the beginning of primary school - The National language (Malay Language), Chinese (Mandarin) and English. As a local Penangites, the most popular dialect that's spoken here – Hokkien languages, we can all speak well on these four basic languages and the communication skill is definitely not a problem.
其实大多数的本土华裔在小学开始就必须修读基本三种语言 - 国家语言（马来语），华语（中文）及英语。像我在槟城长大的人就再加上这里通用的方言 – 福建话，就这四种语言我们都可以说得不错，沟通绝对不是问题。

There are many Teowchew people in Penang and there are many similar intonations between Hokkien and Teochew, so many of local Chinese can easily understand the meanings.
槟城还有很多潮州人，再加上福建话和潮州话也有很多相近的语调，所以很多华裔人士也是可以听得懂。

What makes two Hong Kong photographers curious most is that we also know how to well speak on Cantonese. In fact, Hong Kong drama was very popular in Malaysia many years ago. We watched a lot of Hong Kong dramas and meantime we are learned Cantonese too. Although speak not very pure but still able to do the basic communication. Some people event can’t speak Cantonese but they still able to understand the meanings.
最令两位香港摄影师好奇的是，我们也会广东话，其实很多年前，港剧在马来西亚各地很盛行，我们看多了港剧，久而久之也学会了广东话，虽然不是很纯真，但是基本交流还是可以，而且有些人就算不会讲，也是听得懂。

In addition, the Malay and Indonesian language are 50% similar, the intonation although different but most are the same meaning.
再说，马来语和印尼语也有50%的相似，语调虽然不一样，但是意思大多还是一样的。

In Penang, there are a lot of Hakka people gathered in the southwest area and the Hakka dialect is another language we are able for minor understanding, Hahaha. And because the southern part of Thailand and north of Malaysia are connected together, there are many people who can speak the Thai language also, and I also know a lot of simple Thai words.
再说回槟城，有不少的客家人聚集在西南区，客家话又是另一种我们也列懂的语言，哈哈。
还有还有，因为泰国南部和马来西亚北部是连接一起的，这里也有不少人是可以说泰语的，我本身也是列懂很多泰语单词。

Two of Malay friends also joined on this photos outing, the two Hong Kong photographers watched me speak Hokkien with Mr.B, Mr.B is speaking English to Mr.C, Mr.C is speaking Malay to Mr.D, Mr.D speak Mandarin with me, and we speak Cantonese with them, they felt very funny on this, haha.
这次的外拍活动还加入两位友族同胞，两位香港摄影师看着我和乙说福建话，而乙和丙说英文，丙和丁说马来语，丁和我说中文，我们和他们说广东话，他们觉得很还玩，哈哈。

Thank you, Malaysia, you let me learning many different languages. Let me use different language to say [I Love You] thanks to you.
感恩我生长在马来西亚这个国土上，让我学会很多不同的语言，就让【我爱你】来表达我对你的谢谢。

Indonesia 印尼语： Aku Cinta Kamu
Thai 泰国语：Chan Rak Teur
Hakka 客家话： Ngai Oi Ni
Cantonese 广东话：Ngo Oi Nei
Hockkien 福建话：Wa Ai Li
