Unlocking the Power of Chrome: Day 11

in #chrome6 years ago
Wow, I guess time does fly when you are having fun. Here we are on day 11 and if you are just dropping in, I am covering a new Google Chrome Extension every other day.

These extensions are a great way to power-up your browser giving you much more functionality than simply surfing the web.

The extension I am going to cover today is another recommendation from one of my readers. On one of my very first posts, @digitaldruid recommended that I cover this extension because it is one of his favorites.

Ghostery

The extension that @digitaldruid recommended is called Ghostery. You can access it and add it to Chrome from the Chrome Webstore here. They also have a website for the extension because it is available for multiple browsers.

At first glance, Ghostery is an ad blocking extension very similar to Ad-Block which I covered previously. As you dig deeper though, you will find that Ghostery does much more than just block ads.

In addition to blocking ads, Ghostery also allows you to view and allow or deny trackers on websites to help maintain your privacy. An additional outcome from all of the blocking that Ghostery does behind the scenes is that your browser and surfing experience becomes faster.

Ghostery also has a very detailed and easy to use dashboard where you can see all of the things that it has blocked. There is a really great tutorial on how it all works at their website here.

Thank you

Thanks again @digitaldruid for the recommendation. I would love to hear more recommendations from you Steemians. What is a Google Chrome Extension you just can't live without? Let me know about it in the comments and if I cover it in a future post I will give you a shout-out, follow, and upvote on one of your current posts.

Thank you readers, for stopping in and checking this out. I will be bringing you another great Chrome extension in a couple of days. You can view some of the recent extensions I have covered here:

Hmm nice. I have just changed from Chrome to Brave (a newer browser). I had issues with Chrome - but this would definitely be a great and important extension. I might change back and equip my Chrome with plenty of extensions - as Brave is relatively new and lacking some of the essential features.

I haven't heard of Brave, but I will check it out. If it picks up any amount of market share and it has the capability I am sure a lot of the bigger companies will start writing extensions for it as well. I know some of the extensions I have covered also have plugins for Firefox. Thanks for the comment!

I'm not really tech-savvy, but I believe it's open-source, so development shouldn't be too slow on extensions. Maybe I haven't found them yet haha. As for CPU Usage, I find it uses way less than Chrome. RAM would be approximately the same. Again, these are just minor and quick observations with the same tabs running. For me, it's definitely smoother/faster, but that may depend, I suppose.
