Unlocking the Power of Chrome: Day 10

in #writing6 years ago

Wow, day 10, can you believe it? I knew there were plenty of Chrome extensions to cover over two weeks ago when I started this series, but I never imagined how well it would be received.

Thank you so much for all of the support as I continue to cover Chrome extensions that can power-up the way you browse and work.

Today I am going to be focusing on a user suggested extension. I have plenty of extensions to cover in my bag of tricks, but I feel it adds a little something extra when the one I cover is from one of my readers who have commented on a past post.

LastPass

The extension I am going to cover today was recommended by @awakentolife and it is called Lastpass. It can be accessed in the Chrome Webstore here. They also have a webpage that you may be familiar with which can be accessed here.

If you have not heard of Lastpass, it is a password management tool that allows you to create and remember only one password. Once you have your account setup, you can then vault your logins and passwords from various sites to easily input them in the corresponding site.

The Lastpass Chrome extension goes even farther by retrieving your stored logins and passwords when necessary and auto logs you in to whatever site you are on.

If you choose, you can also store credit card information and shipping/billing addresses in Lastpass to quickly speed up the checkout process on e-commerce sites.

If you have a lot of logins to a lot of different services like I do, Lastpass might be something you want to check out. You can start slow and add just a couple of your favorite sites or you can go all out and load in all of your logins and passwords from the get-go.

They also have an app for your phone that works similar to the Chrome extension. That way you can have access to your password vault no matter what device you are on.

Thank you!

Thanks again @awakentolife for pointing out this great extension. If you have an extension that you think I should cover, please leave a comment. If I cover your extension, I will give you a shout-out in the post, a follow, and an upvote on one of your recent posts.

This really has been an interesting and timely series. I've recently started using Chrome again -- since Firefox basically ruined their browser with the latest update. So many things there now simply don't work or aren't available ... and leave me unable to do a lot of the things I used to do with Firefox.

At heart, I'm an Opera-lover. That browser is just great for me in so many ways. But sometimes, now that I'm running two blogs, I have to be sure I'm in the right account and transacting business from the right place -- and two browsers makes that so much easier. In this series you've done a great job of explaining Chrome and its many benefits. (I'll almost be sorry to see it end. But maybe your next project / series will be just as intriguing.)

Awesome, I am glad this has been helpful for you. Thanks for the compliment and input. When I am at work I usually have both Chrome and Firefox open as well. Be sure to check out incognito mode in Chrome. It will allow you to have different login sessions open at the same time. For example, when I am managing my personal account vs. the Google domain of the place I work I can be logged in to both. It would potentially allow you to use Chrome for all of your stuff while being logged in to separate accounts. There are a lot of tools that you can have access to by having a Gmail account. I started covering some of those in my early posts and I plan on coming back to some of those in the future. Thanks again for the vote of confidence!

Thanks for sharing... I was looking for a password management tool, an easy one to use. Now with that chrome extension, I wonder how's the level of security like? Is it secure to use that extension?

You would most likely be using it on a device you own since Chrome extensions are tied to you logging in to the Chrome browser. When you log into Chrome it pulls in your bookmarks and extensions from your profile that is stored in the cloud. I would recommend against logging in to Chrome on a public device.

So much tools on chrome! :D
