Cervantes Magazine Vol. 23

The term "minority" is a concept that was established in the language during the mid-20th century. And even today there is no real consensus regarding its meaning. Being a concept of philosophical reflection, we can’t consult the RAE, so we turned to the United Nations and its "Minority Rights: International Standards And Guidance For Implementation" letter, published in New York and Geneva, 2010.

There, we found this definition:

”Adopted by consensus in 1992, the United Nations Minorities Declaration in its article 1 refers to minorities as based on national or ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic identity, and provides that States should protect their existence”

But going through and deepening on this topic, we come across other definitions such as one by José María Contreras Mazario which amplifies the spectrum that “covers” this word:

A group of people who reside permanently in the territory of a State, numerically inferior and non-dominant in relation to the rest of the population, whose ethnic, cultural, religious or linguistic characteristics differ from those of the majority or those of the rest of the population, shall be maintained, preserved and promoted for the future, even if implicitly, with collectivity and solidarity.

When we face any world or situation, we find ourselves with a group of people who are the minority compared to the rest. How we deal with these "minorities" defines us as human beings.

Everyone of us, at some point, feel like we are part of a minority because the term implies plenty of Sociology, but also of Psychology. That is why it is very important to emphasize what is done in the United Nations regarding "Minorities that do not exercise power" or "Minorities in danger". Because, in many cases we are not a minority, simply, we just don’t have the power.

The poor, women, young people, children, non-Caucasians (if we start to list skin colors and ethnicities it will never end) we are not a minority. But history and society have convinced us that we need special protection. This is called "paternalism" ... just because we weren’t born in the right place, and with the right color and sex, does not mean that we have damaged qualities.

That's why the invention of Social Networks and the Internet changed the world because it eradicated many prejudices ... behind the screen, for better or for worse, we can get where we want and be as we want to be. In the world of cryptocurrencies, minorities are diluted and those groups that in the traditional world have been discriminated against, have taken over the influences in the networks. For example, gender minorities.

Today in Cervantes we take a look at a complex term, a constantly changing concept, because we are small within the Steemit world, we appeal to the great power of the

As I have stated countless times, the audiovisual world is a reflection of life, touching the same issues that affect us as individuals or as a society, in addition, it seeks to illustrate, excite and appeal to the imagination and fantasy of the viewer. Thus, "minorities" also have their place in this world.

Hello, Steemit community!, since its origins, the video game industry has been harshly criticized by both the media and non-gamers, arguing that this hobby feeds the hatred and anger of young people and is also a "waste of time" for not contributing anything in an "apparent" way, something very far from reality.

Of course, this paradigm goes hand in hand with new technologies and the possibility of accessing them. That is to say, it is not enough to have a Smartphone and connect to the Internet, you have to know how to move around it, navigate it and meet others. If not, it would be like giving a book without teaching to read. We can never refuse to teach what we know, that can be the difference so that in our world, the word "minority" become a mathematical concept and nothing more.

civilization is something which was imposed on a resisting majority by a minority which understood how to obtain possession of the means to power and coercion.
(Sigmund Freud)

vlog 23 just amazing
you just nice vloging
i love it

Very nice... Very nice indeed... I am still nodding at this post.

Yes, yes... Cervantes in English.

Because, why not, right? Truly, why not. This is after all an English-speaking World, and an English-speaking community (first and foremost).

So I ask you, can Cervantes really promote content in English?

I have a ton of material written in English, and oftentimes it touches subjects and themes that deal with the Spanish-speaking World, and with Hispanic affairs... But as I am a "minority", I am usually not taken into account, and quickly discarded.

But, if Cervantes could indeed come to terms with the language (English), then it could thrive more efficiently in an ambiance that is full of people who would not read Spanish, but who indeed have learned to manage themselves in English.

Think about it: Even, perhaps, Spanish classes for Anglophones? It could give Cervantes a whole new meaning, without harming in any way our previous aim...

Blessings! @cervantes
