Cervantes Magazine Number 23: Desynchronized News

Alien life on Earth has been revealed after centuries of secret coexistence. The beings that have lived infiltrated among us for longer than we could imagine have decided to take a step forward and made public not only their existence but also their need for rights.

Society is still shaken by what is being the most groundbreaking news in the history of mankind. There are those who still insist on denying the facts, claiming this is nothing more than advertising strategies from the new elite.

Many people point to CGI and VFX techniques as the tools through which the leaders of the world have made us all believe that something like this is possible. They have pointed, once again, to terror politics serving as the hand that pulls the strings. However, two reporters from The Cervantes Magazine were present at the press conference the aliens held in Praia, Cape Verde. A conference that was not easy to attend, given the geographical location, resulting in many countries not being present at the event. However, it was there where those who self-defined themselves as "our neighbors" decided to appear before the global media.

These beings presented themselves without any clothing, they explained that it was completely unnecessary for them to speak Portuguese perfectly. They carried a white flag as a sign of peace when they entered the press room. Once they felt safe, and verified that there was no threat, they left the flag on the ground and began to explain to the attendees the purpose of making themselves known.

As they expressed, the time of living hidden had come to an end. Human rumors about their existence were becoming more common and the environment, according to them, was becoming increasingly hostile. The film industry, they claimed, was portraying a negative image of them, and if they did not make public their presence and intentions on Earth, they feared that a time would come when no one would believe them. That was the reason that led them to make themselves known in the most peaceful way: naked and unarmed.

After a calm and concise speech, the beings went on to present what they called, "The minorities manifesto." In it they expressed their deepest emotions regarding how it is to live in a minority among our species. With the manifesto they tried to shield themselves from possible attacks, exposing their rights and obligations as intelligent inhabitants of planet Earth. They also clarified the urgent need to make an agreement regarding their demands with the main governments of Earth.

The G20 already has a date for its next summit, which will have as its main topic the discussion of the Manifesto and how to approach the future coexistence with these beings. In a few weeks we will know what the leaders of the most powerful countries have to say about it.
