AMG was an independent tuner company founded in 1967 by Daimler-Benz engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher (the G stands for Grossaspach, Aufrecht’s birthplace). Firstly, AMG modified engines and sold performance accessories in order to upgrade their Mercedes. But with the success, in the 80's, AMG fully modified the cars in its plant in Affalterbach (Germany).

Introduced in 1985 (in prodution until 1992), the 560 SEC AMG was powered with a 6.0-liter V8 engine with an automatic transmission. This model has an unique wide-body conversion with numerous AMG features (upgraded engine, body panels, suspension pieces...). These coupes were worth $200,000 in 1990 when the classic Mercedes version was just over $80,000.
