History of the Jaguar XKSS

line_grey.jpg

The Jaguar XKSS was built in 1957 on the base of D-Type racing car. Indeed, Jaguar had retired from competitions in 1956 and some D-Type chassis was unused. Sir William Lyons, founder of Jaguar, decided to use them to create a car with road-going specification (a seat and door on the passenger side, full-width windscreen...).

But in February 1957, a fire destroyed the Browns Lane plant with nine of the twenty-five cars. Only 16 XKSS survived (all sold in the US, one to Steve McQueen known as the Green Rat - now presented at Petersen Museum).

In the 70's, Lynx Engineering, Jaguar experts Sussex-based firm (founded by Guy Black, Chris Keith-Lucas, and Roger Ludgate), built 9 reproduction of the Jaguar XKSS ordered by Colin Crabbe, a noted dealer in historic racing cars and racer.

This model has an estimated value of $US 250,000 but with its low milage (less than 12,000 km) and in examplary condition, the price will be surely higher.

Nice car. Looks very muscular for a car of that era. Sports cars in the late 50s are usually sleek and sexy

The design in the 50's is often great, and this Jaguar is no exception
