1965 Ferrari 275 GTS Pininfarina
This stunning 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS is heading to the auction block through RM Sotheby's in Abu-Dhabi later this month. With a coachwork by Pininfarina, it's estimated that this model, the 189th of 200 examples built, will be sold at more than $US 1,500,000.
History of the Ferrari 275
In 1963, Ferrari wanted to replace the 250 GT series by a new model. The Ferrari 275 was presented at the 1964 Paris Motor Show. There was two models :
- the GTS designed by Pininfarina, an open spider more luxuous and confortable,
- the GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) designed by Scaglietti (photo below).

The two models were completely different as you can see with the uncovered headlamps, triple-louvered fenders, a tapered rear end... Only 200 GTS examples were built.

I also wanted to talk about the launch of the Mustang Mach-E announced yesterday by Ford. But @zacknorman97 did a great post about it : A silver Bullitt? - Ford Mustang Mach-E (2020/2021). Nothing to add...
Thanks for the shout-out, I can't fully express my appreciation @heroldius :-)
The 275 GTS is just about one of the prettiest Ferrari's made, and that Verde really makes it pop, a refreshing change from all the Rosso paintwork on Ferraris. The 1960s in my (strong) opinion, is the best era of Ferrari design, and this GTS is a testament to that.
I also learned recently, that old man Ferrari didn't want to make convertibles, as he was concerned about safety regulations, especially in the US. However, some of his partners, including Pininfarina and Ferrari's dealers, convinced him otherwise, which turned out to be a good decision indeed.
@tipu curate, please :)
Yep, design is this time was stunning thanks to the Italian coachbuilder like Pininfarina, Scaglietti, Bertone, Ghia, Zagato, Vignale... when there is competition, there is emulation...
True. There was also more freedom back then, as designers weren't constrained by all types of safety and crash regulations.
