1937 Lagonda LG45 Rapide Tourer
This beautiful 1937 Lagonda LG45 Rapide Tourer will heading to the The Bond Street Sale through Bonhams auction block for about £ 750,000. I don't know much about cars before WWII, but it's always good to learn about new models / marque with this Lagonda LG45, one of only 25 built (24 surviving).
History of the Lagonda LG45
First, Lagonda is a British car company founded in 1906 and now owned by Aston Martin (1947). The model LG45 was presented in September 1935 and named after the engine displacement 4.5 liters like its predecessor the M45.
The Lagonda LG45 was produced under the supervision of W.O. Bentley, English engineer & founder of Bentley Motors. The LG45 became quickly the favorite sport car of its day. The coachwork was designed by Frank Feeley who worked on the Aston Martin DB2.
"In its road test published on 10th April 1936, The Autocar declared: 'The 4½-Litre has always given a fine performance; in its latest form it provides all the performance that anyone can reasonably require, and at the same time has been silenced, smoothed out and made a much more comfortable car, so that in comparison with the earlier versions it is hardly recognisable on first driving it." - The Autocar (10th April 1936)
Specification
With its 4.5 liter engine, the Lagonda LG45 was one of few 30's automobiles capable of comfortably exceeding 160 kmh (108.2 mph - 174 kmh). The engine produces more than 130 hp at 3,400 rpm and can reach 100 kmh in 13.2 seconds.
For this example, the car was delivered in green with matching leather interior, and came equipped with side screens, tonneau cover, and polished walnut woodwork. Full restoration in 2010. Beautiful...

Love the details. And the car with the side pipes and top down looks so powerful. I also don't know much about pre-40's cars. I like this one though!
Me too before 50's, I don't know much about cars. I like on this Lagonda the central headlight.
Tuckers famously had the central headlight and the headlights on the side that moved side to side with the direction of the wheels
