Biltong & Cheese Deep Fried Onions

Deep Frying is not something that is normally associated with braaing and an open fire, but when my mate and camera man Donsie told me about it, I figured it was time to once again prove that anything you can do on a stove, I can do on a braai, and with the Chad-O-Chef Hybrid... I can turn my gas braai into a wood braai for some high heat.



If you can do it on a stove, I can do it on the braai ;-)

As always, just following a recipe is boring and feels a little like straight-up stealing someone else idea (but mainly, if it 'flops', then I can just claim that I wasn't following the recipe and that was the intended result :P). The original recipe calls for a traditional flour, eggs and crumbs batter, I went with a beer batter with a touch of cayenne. I also pressed some biltong into the cheese... because everyone in South Africa loves biltong.

hmmmm... I'm not sure how I'd keep the egg IN the middle... but you got me thinking :P

Re the spam: just doing what I can... busy working on some bots/ideas that will notify authors who have accidentally upvoted spam comments... every cent counts and I'm sure if the spammers are no longer even making the pennies they're currently making, then there will be no incentive to do so.

I guess, to fry the egg, you would need to use a frying pan that’s covered to cook it all at the same time... Oh, and then maybe you could deep fry the whole thing together, egg and cheese onion? I need a burrito.

That bot sounds like a good idea. If the bot accumulated a blacklist it could pinpoint the spammy spammer’s comments that actually have a pay out on them. When I see a spammer that has lots of copy and paste comments I look for the ones that have any type of reward on it (0.01 or more is the best I can see). Those get flagged first. Can a bot do that?

Epic, definitely will do. Have a couple slabs drying for a garlic and rosemary biltong parfait. Reckon your recipe will help finish up any leftover bits nicely (Biltong King dehydrator saves the day. hmmmm, I love deep fried onions, so I have to disagree with you.... BUT, I'm also loving your idea of trying it with JUST biltong and cheese.
If you cut the cheese into thicker cubes/tubes and go more liberal with the biltong it could/should turn out delicious!
