Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien calendar - chapter three, my stories about illustrators:) Lady Galadriel
I already wrote a series of posts about my favorite artists, and now I want to talk a bit about favorite llustrators.
Today I continue telling you a story about Hildebrandt brothers and their illustrations based on Tolkien "The Lord of the Rings". Chapter one lives here, and here lives chapter two. Chapter three - here, four - here.
So, now to another illustrstion. The May page is Lady Galadriel.
-"Lady Galadriel, the elf queen, impessed us with her closeness to a classic goddess. Exactly this feeling we thyed to show in the picture"
Greg Hildebrandt
For the reference images Greg's wife, Diana Hildebrandt was posing. From there first meeting she regulary posed for his pictures, turning to different characters, and finally to the elf queen:
Galadriel's ring was also on photo. The artists settled the light in a way to highlight it.
The main work always was creating sketches and references. It always works like that, this process takes the most time and effort. While painting itself is a cherry on the cake.
Thank you for watching:)
