Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien calendar - chapter three, my stories about illustrators:) Bilbo at Rivendell
I already wrote a series of posts about my favorite artists, and now I want to talk a bit about favorite llustrators.
Today I continue telling you a story about Hildebrandt brothers and their illustrations based on Tolkien "The Lord of the Rings". Chapter one lives here, and here lives chapter two. Chapter three - here.
So. The fourth, April illustration in the calendar depicts Bilbo, who's wrighting a book in Rivendel.
References for the drawing were created in a deep night. Greg junior remembers, that usualy his father was taking photos while his uncle was preparing the scene. He was preparing the characters, fixed cloth on them, and one of the most important things - settled the light. In this picture a reflected light was used, so that it could create mild shadows. The candle is on the picture, but there was no candle on the photo.
Tim Hildebrandt posed for Bilbo:
But the face was taken from the artists father, George Hildebrandt:
One more interesting thing about illustration. Tim Hildebrandt was influenced with Disney in his creative manner. And he was saying that he whished to reflect the Jepetto's workshop spirit in the drawing:)
Thank you for watching:)
