April Personal Update

Well, I've been putting off this personal update, partly because I came back from travelling recently, and partly because of a rather disappointing month :).

My last personal update is here.

Pardon the mismatch in size, too lazy to fix it.

This is always fun to see. Oddly, something got marked blue this month even though the absolute number appears to have improved. I was thinking because of that color that I was not improving. So I wonder, I suppose as I am gaining some weight it's not going in the right places? Dunno. Of course, this is to be taken with a grain of salt because the method of measurement isn't super accurate.

During my travels, I stopped doing the daily exercise since the timing was always a bit awkward, but there are times where this is made up by a significant amount of hiking. I'll post about it soon! It was pretty fun, but after a few days I was ready to go home. One post of the trip is already out about my capture of the Aurora on my phone. Anyway, I'm slowly ramping that back up to what I was normally doing, but recently it's like 20 burpees, ?? crunches and some extra pushups in the morning.

The goal remains to improve the numbers until the little app is happy.

Steem/Steemit

Again, a noticeable drop in writing. However, I'm content with interacting daily with various folks. And I'm always thinking about what I want to post next, so at least my motivation to put something out there has not disappeared. As I mentioned earlier, soon there should be more with Travel, and some more Opal.

And if you were following along, a bid bot that I helped run, @cryptoempire, is now shut down. You can read about my view of it here. Make sure you take delegations away. I've been actively reaching out to delegators. And people are still sending bids to the bot which I can refund by turning the bot on periodically on disabled mode. Would have expected no more usage of the bot after its removal from steembottracker, but I suppose maybe it became a habit.

Development-wise, I was poking around the codebase and made the following (not yet accepted) changes:

  • Adding Beneficiaries to a post - I was doing this while thinking it could be nice to automatically distribute a post's value to someone else, but the beneficiary mechanic only distributes SP, which means that not only is it no liquid, one would lose out on the current higher than 1 USD SBD prices. But it was a fun exercise for me to learn more about the React framework.
  • Changes to show STEEM liquid rewards - Just to keep up to date with what's been happening with STEEM portion of rewards. I also thought it might make sense at this time to remove the breakdown on things already paid out because it's just not accurate.

My goal will be to explore helping out @steemgigs with what they need, though I haven't committed yet. But also I will look into why whenever you log in with your active key it seems never to let you do the first operation successfully, making you hit the button again to go through. I'm also toying with the idea of starting a very small witness node to recover some expense for running my side projects, but that's also some other exploration process I'm not yet committed too.

Goals

I just realized I had told myself to do a few other things that did not happen. One was to look into creating an abuse dashboard. I think there's plenty that already exist, so I did not act on it. My favorites now are @transparencybot and @abusereports. I also did not create a contest yet, and I don't think I plan to just yet. We'll see how I feel about it.

I'm still reading a little, finishing the "Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest". Next I saw @cryptosharon promoting a free fantasy ebook so I'll maybe pick that up and see.

Let's set up a few goals though, summarizing some from above and throwing in some I am thinking about now:

  1. Make a Code Walkthrough of another aspect of Steem.
  2. Make improvement to condenser to get rid of that annoying failure bug.
  3. Look into contributing to other projects. (Maybe @steemgigs ?).
  4. Investigate whether I should run a small witness node.
  5. Reading two more books.
  6. Recording another video.
  7. Summarize all the random referral links that are in my footer one of these days.
  8. Try a curation style post.
  9. Promote the Crypto Empire discord.

These are for a month from now. Sounds good to me. Welcome to suggestions as well. Until next time!

Edit: Excited to find out why I keep getting an error whenever I do something like power up or transfer with "Account not found". I don't know how many others do this, but I save user/password pairs where one is "eonwarped" and the other is "eonwarped/active", since Steemit allows you to do that to login. Turns out that when you use "eonwarped/active" as the login name you'll get the blasted "Account not found error" when trying to do certain operations. Go figure... I'll probably make a post about that at some point. The fix also should be pretty easy too!

Hey @eonwarped!
I enjoyed looking at your progress, which app are you using to track them?
I want to suggest a @coachjj initiative, you can check it here.
I did a nice run today, and will update in a post with the things I am at tomorrow! @coachjj is a great fitness instructor and really friendly!

Have a nice day,
Luca ✌️

@eonwarped you are busy, busy, busy! But, if you would like to join our Fitness Challenge, it coordinates nicely with what you’re already doing. Just workout (any workout) 5 days per week. The challenge uses financial incentive to help hold you accountable! I hope you’ll consider it; tomorrow is the last chance to join. Follow the link in @bafi’s comment above :)

I think I'll pass this time. If I ever have a more concrete goal though I may join the next round. For now I think I'm able to keep up with the routine :). I did see the post earlier and was on the fence hehe...

It's an app and scale pairing from Yolanda. https://appadvice.com/app/yolanda-health-fitness-tool/966099204 it's fun to see those numbers go up and down.

I have seen the post but I think I'm going to chicken out this time :)

Awww, what I'd give to be able to hike in Iceland!

How much do you think that a small witness node would cost you and how much do you think it would bring back in revenue? I'd like to do this but I don't feel confident that I'd be able to do it. I've also been slacking a lot

And your goals! Awesome. I wish I could set goals without feeling like I'm imposing a lifestyle on myself and inciting self-rebellion, lol. So many goals!

Yeah I wonder if I put too many :P

About the witness node, I have no idea, and it's on my list to investigate. I've heard the 10$ vps figure thrown around but when I look at it I can only be skeptical on how much it could earn. Or whether or not it will run properly.

I love to see people keeping track of things, maybe one day that skill will brush off on me :P
<3 <3 <3

Thanks for the updates. Hope you can continue recording new videos. Fitness is key. I'm 33 but trying to get back in shape after years of decline. getting back into playing basketball. Maybe I should write a post about that. Thanks for reminding me hehe. I'm Oatmeal.

Always good to find a fitness way that aligns with you :). Oatmeal? Like mushy?

I'm mm chicken arms.

You have some nice goals, these sort of post can help you keep track of what you want to accomplish.

Burpees are such a great full body exercise. I'm participating in a burpee challenge at my gym. The goal is 5000 by August 26. I did 62 today. If you break the challenge down, it's 31 daily, but I haven't completed them on weekends. I usually do 50+ per weekday and I'm seeing my body fat composition change. Numbers are fun and weird.

Wow! That’s awesome!

I was doing 50 daily for awhile too and had stopped. I'm slowly trying to build back to that number again. And yeah, it really does make a difference! A very nice goal.

Nice update E! I like the part about "in all the wrong places." Hahah
I doubt it, but I guess you never know.
I'd love a review of the book you are reading since read the first three but not the last two. Different authors and all that jazz.
Interesting to see you like the transparency bot, i have a few names for you to go hunt down and flag, altho you you know them so not sure you would do it. Buahaahhaahh
love,
eagle

Oh snap, there are two more? Gotta go dig them up haha... Oh right, different author. Not sure if I am going to read them either. We'll see!

yessss and with all you do how do you find time to rrad books? amazing

Thank you for the support of transparency and quality work on the platform!

This post has been deemed resteem & upvote worthy by your @ecs (eastcoaststeem) community leaders @chelsea88 & @inthenow

Hey Evan. Thanks for the update. Your stats look like they're going in the right direction to me. Great job, especially considering you holidayed in that time too.

Looks like you're gonna be busy.

I'll vote for you if you decide to be a witness and would encourage anyone else to do so too. Top bloke!

Books: well done on finishing the book. I've got a few recommendations if you're interested...

For a total immersion into the mind of Alzheimer's sufferers, you can't get better than House Mother Normal -- a Geriatric Comedy by B S Johnson. It's weird AF and genuinely funny. Written early 70s and very experimental in style and layout.

For something less heavy, you could try The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out of The Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. This is funny, touching and interesting from start to finish.

A good non-fiction is God: The Most Unpleasant Character in All Fiction by Dan Barker. Funny and clever book.
