Black Panther (My Spoiler Review)

in #blackpanther6 years ago (edited)

If you read My Non-Spoiler Review then you already know that this movie is simply AMAZING!!!

The big question is....Exactly why is the Black Panther an AMAZING movie?

Let's dive right in!!!

Civil War built anticipation for this film.

We see him jump into action when he was on a revenge quest to killing "Bucky" the Winter Soldier and later we see his character grow as we see him let go of his vengeance when he realized that it can make a person blind as he "...almost killed the wrong man..."
Pretty much we see his character/personality and get to see him kick ass; the two traits that make people love a superhero character.

Film has a Solid villain (Killmonger)

Yup that is Killmonger the main antagonist. The similarities/differences between he and Black Panther is phenomenal. Both their fathers have been killed. Both of them are strong. Both of them are determined but both stand on different sides.
T'Challa is more like T'Chaka(his father) where he wants Wakanda to remain isolated from the world so that it remains safe while Killmonger is also like his father N'Jobu, where he wants Wakanda to put itself out there and be top of the nation BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
T'Challa is more of the conservative type while Killmonger is more of the anarchist type.
Just like in "Civil War" you have two sides where each side has its good & bad reasons.
In "Civil War," superheroes shouldn't be monitored by governments because governments have their own agendas BUT superheroes should be monitored by governments because they need to be put in check if they wreak havoc.
In "Black Panther," Killmonger wants to make Wakanda to be the top of the nation by spreading itself across world and supply weapons so that people of his race can no longer be oppressed but it will lead to bloodshed and violence WHILE T'Challa wants to preserve Wakanda's way of life so that its nation won't have to worry about outside threats but makes Wakanda no different from other nations as isolating and xenophobic.
Another way to describe this is hero vs anti-hero.
Also I find it a bit cliche that Killmonger was going to beat Black Panther in a ritual combat because I already know that would happen.
Marvel is known to having forgetful villains but I believe this is taking the right step forward. I believe it copies the right formula from the movie Spiderman: Homecoming.
Spiderman: Homecoming develops the villain/antagonist by giving it a backstory just like how this film does it.
I should really compare this film to other MCU films in another post.

Spiritual Journey (Parallelism)

This is one of my favorites in the movie. Both went on their own separate spiritual journey where they meet their fathers. You really see the soft side of them and how broken they are on the inside. In their spiritual journeys, T'Challa misses his father and asks him for guidance on how to be a great king of Wakanda WHILE Killmonger also misses his father and promises him that he will change Wakanda for the better.
The film captures the compare and contrast between the two.

T'Challa Character Growth

I said this in my "Non-Spoiler Review" but I will write it again but this time MORE IN-DEPTH. You see him grow and develop so much more than you saw him on “Captain America: Civil War.” In this movie you see him grow as a better king by RIGHTING the wrongs of his father, T'Chaka when T'Chaka killed N'Jobu and kept this a secret to protect Wakanda which also lead to the making of Killmonger. (Now I sound like I am writing for the DC Universe television show Arrow). Killmonger played an important part to T'Challa growth and makes you realize how this film created a developed villain. Killmonger may be a bit more of a sociopath but he has a point that Wakanda should share it's resources to the world. At the end of the film you see T'Challa at a press conference putting Wakanda out there to the world.

The Climax

I wish there was more because I felt it was rushed. Don't get me wrong I love the war and the rhinos coming into the battle.

I LOVE the gauntlets and the circular blades but I really wish the scenes for it were longer especially in Nakia & Shuri vs. Killmonger. The two weapons look really cool but sadly we only see not much of it.

This is one of the fight scenes from Dragon Ball Z. This is Cell vs. 16
In the climax where T'Challa fight against Killmonger, they both wear their own Black Panther suits while falling down to the Vibranium mine and it reminds me of this scene from Dragon Ball Z. Just letting you all know Killmonger suit was inspired by Vegeta, another character from Dragon Ball Z. One of my complaints is that if they were going to do a hand to hand fight scene at least go all the way with it. At least try to make the fight scene on the Vibranium mine look more like "The Raid" or the Netflix series "Daredevil."

Ending Feels Similar to Iron Man

Tony Stark in the 1st Iron Man movie was like "Fuck it. I'm going to tell the world" one could point that he is being a narcissist but the facial expressions tells me that he is more like "Fuck it. I suck at keeping secrets." Once he revealed his identity all hell breaks loose but you do not know EXACTLY what kind of chaos that will bring.
It is similar to the ending of "Black Panther" when T'Challa goes to a press conference and tells the whole world he wants to share Vibranium. T'Challa wants to make the world a more unified place bringing it one step closer but it ALSO brings chaos. One easy example would be that once Wakanda is known there is a high possibility of it being invaded.

Internal and External Conflicts of Wakanda (Potential Sequels)

Clearly this film is an internal conflict where you see its not a perfect system which made Killmonger. I am not going to repeat from my last review of how the film makers grasped every detail of the clothing, art, music, tradition, language, etc. I'm going to dive right in to the POLITICS with my own thoughts so please do not be triggered as I am not taking any sides. Just letting you guys know I am not a political person or into politics. I just know some basics.
Obviously Wakanda the way it is run is socialist. If you don't believe me check out the 2010 motion comic TV series:

The logo looks like this and in this film one character said, "...I have never met a socialist with a crown on his head before..." to T'Chaka. Anyways, what the sequel will bring will be something more of an external conflict where AGAIN some outside force will most likely invade Wakanda or Black Panther help balance socialism and capitalism in Wakanda something like that.
Socialism isn't perfect and capitalism isn't perfect either. Socialism supports equality like in economics but restricts innovation while capitalism supports innovation but encourages greed. This is just a broad lesson about the two. Who knows? Maybe the sequel will touch upon that. I mean T'Challa did bring a middle ground to his beliefs and Killmonger's beliefs. Maybe I am overthinking it? Now that I think of it maybe the sequel will be some villain like America invading Wakanda to turn it into a full on capitalism like America itself and then the Black Panther will save Wakanda from America then find a middle ground to it. Maybe that will be the 2nd installment to it. I know it will be more like the 2010 TV motion comic. I also feel the 3rd installment would be aliens invading Wakanda cause they found THEIR Vibranium and that they want to take it back.

Overall Thoughts

I am nit picky with certain things in the movie but this movie is nevertheless AWESOME. I will STATE again that 2 hours feel short. I could write more about Klaue and maybe a few other characters but it looks like I written enough. I know plenty of MCU movies are awesome but this one goes into my top 3 or at least top 5 out of all the 18 soon to be 19 MCU films. "Black Panther" is the first MCU film to have a genre that is geopolitical. I feel that that is why it feels so innovative.

I get really excited when i read anything black panther. ... you gave an amazing review. . You might wanna read how it went down here

Great review. I felt there was a lot to be done with the character and too little time. Same as Thor: Ragnarok, the story progressed a bit too quickly for me. Great movie though. It is now my best marvel movie but like every other movie, it can't be perfect.

it needs to be three hours long in my opinion or at least as long as nolan's batman movies

nice article. It is really one great effort you have done there. Great job.

thanks i made some more improvements by adding pictures and some extra editing
