Wipeout! Take a seat and vent your sorrows....

Well, there are more than enough posts today about the crash and reasons and analysis... doom and gloom or HODL HODL HODL..... So, this is not going to be one of those posts!

This is just a little post to share my experience of yesterday's sudden downturn, and to just see what other people's experience was!

Where were you when...

So, just as the crash was happening I was just about to go on stage for a performance last night! I got an email as I was waiting in the wings, and so I just stopped to quickly check it. It was an email from Bitmex, a crypto derivatives platform where I had been playing around with a small amount of BTC to see how it all worked. In my first month there I had a stupid run of beginner's luck, and so I was able to double my small amount that I had put it.

However, this email was a little unexpected, seeing as I normally only get login notifications from Bitmex. It was a note saying that my long ETH position had been liquidated! Ah crap, that meant that the position that I had was cleared and I lost the entire amount that I had bet on that position. Very soon after, I got a message saying that my BTC position was also liquidated! Wow, the drop was so fast that my stop-loss orders never even got time to trigger and execute! I had learnt my lesson from this little experience, set my stop-loss a bit more conservatively and maybe exit at market rather than with a set limit.

Ah well... some days you win, and other days you crash hard! The least I can do is to learn the lesson and take solace in the fact that it wasn't very much money. However, the past day has been crazy volatile on Bitmex, but having been burnt, I'm a touch too scared to jump in at the moment withe remainder of my balance. I might just wait for things to settle down a bit before getting my feet wet and beginning the slow build again!

Keep Your Crypto Holdings Safe with Ledger

Ledger is one of the leading providers of hardware wallets with the Ledger Nano S being one of the most popular choices for protecting your crypto currencies. Leaving your holdings on a crypto exchange means that you don’t actually own the digital assets, instead you are given an IOU that may or may not be honoured when you call upon it. Software and web based wallets have their weakness in your own personal online security, with your private keys being vulnerable in transit or whilst being stored upon your computer. Paper wallets are incredibly tiresome and still vulnerable to digital attacks (in transit) and are also open to real world attacks (such as theft/photography).

Supporting a wide range of top tokens and coins, the Ledger hardware wallet ensures that your private keys are secure and not exposed to either real world or digital actors. Finding a happy medium of security and usability, Ledger is the leading company in providing safe and secure access to your tokenised future!

Where were you when...

On steem with my mobile about 4 hours ago and have yet to check where the price landed.

That may indicate the degree of my HODLerness. 😎

Ha ha, Yes, I wouldn't be checking but I did have some positions on Bitmex... Most of the stuff is locked away... Safe from nervous hands!

I pretty much just watched it fall a few hours later, just like on Sept 11 when I woke up on the west coast to find out the towers had already fallen.
The last time I experimented with a stop loss order it got triggered on a short dip and I ended up selling at a loss for no reason. So this time I "pulled out all the stops." I've been swing trading so I have some btc and some alts now just in a holding pattern, and I wish I had some USD free to get more btc now!

I tend to only bother with the stop loss on derivatives. There, you run the danger of liquidation off you position which is a nasty thing. Well, that is the price and risk for getting additional leverage!

I have a Ledger but I haven't used it. When it arrived all the stuff I wanted to protect was nearly worthless. I doubt someone will make an effort to steal a couple of dollars, when they can earn the same by going to the downtown and look for lost money on the ground. 😂

Ha ha, Yes but it is better to be safe than sorry... And not telling the story 10 years from now about how your computer security was compromised or that the exchange did an exit scam!

I've been so dark lately I wasn't even aware another downturn had occurred. Glad you didn't lose too much though.

Yeah, we are in a bit of a free fall at the moment... don't look!

howdy sir bengy! such is the life of an investor..I hope it didn't affect your performance!

Nope, after having my position liquidated there was nothing left on the table! That's comforting in a perverse way! Although, I have since jumped back in with renewed tactics and vigour!

oh you have sir bengy? wow that's the spirit...so when you hit some big winners you will do posts about them?

Nope! Those are secret!

oh ok, then I understand, good luck with all of that sir bengy!
