Beer Review

The Plague Doctor is an 8% Imperial/Double IPA brewed by the Relic Brewing Company in Plainville, Connecticut. Relic Brewing Company is a small batch, craft brewer that focuses mostly on IPA style beers, but over the winter I tried a few of their dark stouts and porters and they are also delicious. The Plague Doctor is a DIPA brewed with Idaho 7 and Apollo hops, giving it a dank aroma and fruity flavor.

The Plague Doctor is served in a 16oz full pint can. As you can see in the photo, it has a very intriguing label. A rainbow swirling background reminds me of something from a Van Gogh painting. The words 'The Plague Doctor' are etched in a dark cloud towards the center of the can. Overall, I think it's a nice presentation for the bright beer inside.

The Beer

The Plague Doctor was a bright yellow color when poured into a glass. It was sortof clear instead of hazy like most double IPAs. The color had a greenish tint to it, and I think that might be how it got the name 'The Plague Doctor'. The flavor was crisp with lots of melon hints and a refreshing bite. Overall it was a solid beer at 8% alcohol content. I look forward to trying more brews from Relic Brewing Company in the future.
