Beer Advent Days 21-24 - Merry Beery Christmas to all

in #beersaturday5 years ago

In what is becoming an annual tradition I buy a beer can Advent calendar called Canvent from a local beer retailer in Melbourne, Australia called Carwyn Cellars it is 24 beers, all Australian, All Craft, all in cans all never before released brewed specially for this. Each 4 days I'm going to tell you about them. Oh and for the Northern Hemisphere people, reset your minds, it's hot down here for Christmas so don't expect too many malt bombs.

And now it's time to round out this years series and have ourselves a merry little Christmas.

Day 21 - Modus Operandi are one of Australia's better brewers, based in Sydney, they are renown for their big IPAs but today's beer is a departure for them, a lime sour called Margie, one assumes it meant to taste a little like a margarita, and it sort of does, with less salt. It's pretty good, nice and refreshing, maybe a little to big the in body though which makes it a tad sweet for a true sour.

Day 22 - New England Brewing Co (From NSW) Imperial Chai Brown Ale - Pours closer to black than brown, smells heavily of cardamon and clove, it drink really nicely not sweet at all, almost like a hefty bier de garde. Hence why it complemented the rocky rock sweets so well .

Day 23 - Otherside Brewing are from the otherside of Australia from most of us - they are from Perth on the West Coast, and about 75% of Australians live on the East coast. There beer is an imperial tropical sour. It smells of sweet mangoes and maybe papaya. The carbonation is spritzy, it not that sour, a little like Modus Operandi, its a tad sweet for a sour, but still pretty darn good as just a refreshing summery drink.

Day 24 - Well we are here, the end of another Beer Advent. And they have ended with a bang it's Boatrocker, who are close to the best brewers in Australia, They are based in Breaside in Melbourne, which is pretty close to where I grew up. This beer is called B.A. Humbug. Its a barrel aged English strong ale its 9.2% alcohol, so they are going something special and exciting for Christmas Eve night (which is when one half of my family celebrates christmas, so for us it's a beer we have with christmas pudding. The issue with this beer though is that it's not great - it's boozy and not much else.

But it's Christmas already as you can see by the plum pudding everything ended well.
