Beer Advent - All Australian Beers in Cans in the countdown to Xmas - Days 13-16steemCreated with Sketch.

in #beersaturday5 years ago

In what is becoming an annual tradition I buy a beer can Advent calendar called Canvent from a local beer retailer in Melbourne, Australia called Carwyn Cellars it is 24 beers, all Australian, All Craft, all in cans all never before released brewed specially for this. Each 4 days I'm going to tell you about them. Oh and for the Northern Hemisphere people, reset your minds, it's hot down here for Christmas so don't expect too many malt bombs.

Days 1 to 4 are here:

Days 5 to 8 here:

So days 13 to 16 are a foot:

Beer 13 - Tallboy and Moose who are from just a little north of my home in Melbourne, Victoria - Their beer is a Blended Oat Stout. This is I think our first dark beer, more appropriate for a Northern Hemisphere cold christmas than the 30 odd degrees in Melbourne. It is a strange beer jet black, a very smooth mouthfeel (one assumes from the oats) but then blended with some sort of sour beer, it doesn't hugely work.

Day 14 - Helios is another brewery that I had not heard of, discovering new beers and breweries is always a good things so this is exciting. They are from Queensland - as such it's not surprising that this beer is an easy drinking lager. But it's more complex than that, US hops, some noble, some new school give it a fimiliar but juicy flavour, new zealand malts and then oaked in french oak barrels - all in all a very nice beer, Helios is a brewery I will seek out again.

Day 15 - Beerfarm are a brewery out of Western Australian and they specialise in sour beers. This one is a Watermelon Basil Sour. It's good but a pretty standard sour, perhaps not a layered as we would like. Also in the complicated version on my life today was the first of three different christmas lunchs, so it's a countdown beer to something which has already happened.

Day 16 - Hop Nation are another local brewer, about 5km down the road from my house. Their beer is a Sweater Red IPA actually a pretty standard red IPA there is some sweetness, its balanced - enjoyable but not mind altering, the can artwork might is very nice though - photo is a little dark and blurry because I'd been at the pub with some friends and might have been a likely drunk when I took it.

Sort:

I like the idea of the calendars, but I’ve never bought one oddly enough.
