In what is becoming an annual tradition I buy a beer can Advent calendar called Canvent from a local beer retailer in Melbourne, Australia called Carwyn Cellars it is 24 beers, all Australian, All Craft, all in cans all never before released brewed specially for this. Each 4 days I'm going to tell you about them. Oh and for the Northern Hemisphere people, reset your minds, it's hot down here for Christmas so don't expect too many malt bombs.

Day 17 Edge Brewing Burnt Toast. Edge brewing are the most local of all my breweries, given they started orginally about 200m from my old house, in North Melbourne, Victoria. This is a multi grain lager. What this is is anyone's guess, I suppose it's meant to be smoked, but really It actually just really dull its a dark lager, but without the the gentleness of a lager, but also not the interestingness of the dark lager. Disappointing really.

Day 18 - If you follow surfing you'll understand where Bells Beach Brewery is - just outside on Melbourne. Their yuletide beer is G&T Gose.. Its 40 degrees in Melbourne today so a gin and tonic themed gose is pretty much perfect for this weather - is very easy drinking nice and refreshing and absolutely like gin and tonic but not as strong - It's a Bobby Dazzler.

Day 19 - It's another Melbourne Brewery - this time Burnely Brewing. Their offering is a Cucumber and mint lager - which feels gimmicky, this doesn't work for me at all, it's like stale cucumber water which someone who poured toothpaste into - glad this is a one off.

Day 20 - Sailors Grave Brewery from regional Victoria and "How to Make Gravy.' Australia only really has one Christmas song, it's how to make gravy by Paul Kelly which tells the story of a prisoner lamenting missing Christmas with his family, as you can see in the vid below it gives a recipe for making gravy, this beer follows the recipe, complete with wine and tomato sauce, and it's not a bad beer - two problems though it's the 20th of Dec today not the 21st and it was 111 degrees in Melbourne today not 100 - and yeah that's the hottest December day ever - that 44 celsius for those not willing to do the conversion. Sounds like good beer whether to me
