In the last week or so, Mercury and Venus have both moved into self-assertive, exuberant Aries. In Astrology, Mercury represents your applied intellect and mental skills. Venus represents your social and financial abilities. And Aries takes a backseat to no one when it comes to initiative and competitive spirit. This conjunction formed about a week ago ... and will be in effect for another two weeks, as Mercury slows down to begin its upcoming retrograde ... on March 22.
Fundamentally, this partnership shows a time when you (and everyone) are interested in joining forces with compatible partners and working for mutual gain ... and a social climate designed to exchange information, generate new ideas and develop a common focus -- so that everyone is pulling in the same direction. This could also involve finding out who wants to play on your team -- or whose team you want to join! Again, all energy runs on a two-way street.
Here's what this looks like to an Astrologer.
Mercury / Venus conjunctions add an extra helping of grace and style to the way you share your ideas. There a poetic charm in your presentation, a distinct bit of magic in the way you think, speak and write. This makes your ideas appealing ... and better able to sell themselves. Your perspective is accommodating. Your ideas have a special flare. Your approach and manner invites cooperation and people whose help you may need -- or who can give you valuable support and feedback -- are likely to listen to what you have to say.
This blend supports an interest in art, beauty, diplomacy and gracious living. It perks up your artistic and creative urges and invites you to do something awesome with your time and talents.
This can be anything from enhancing or changing / improving your appearance to finding a more attractive way to present yourself, your talents and creative ideas. It can push raw inspiration into action to help you create popular and original works of art, so assess your creative work. How can these attract attention and render profit? Such ideas come easily now. Ask Source for answers ... and listen.
And here's what this next part looks like to an Astrologer.
Well, there's a classic party pooper on the scene. (Isn't there always?) Mercury has formed a square to Saturn, and that, too, will hang around for a while. Squares indicate interference or conflict between two different parts of your life. As noted, Mercury (mind, ideas, perspective, etc.) is in Aries. Saturn (structure, authority, tradition, "the status quo) is in Capricorn ... a sign whose attitude becomes rigid, remote and unsympathetic under pressure. Squares definitely provide pressure!
Aries / Capricorn squares show a time when your desires and ambitions (which are quite eager, insistent and intense) are blocked by things that are hard to change, deeply entrenched, well-fortified and virtually immovable.
This can include things like "the rules," the way things are, "the way we've always done things," the interests of The Powers That Be ... or people who jealously guard their status and power ... and are resistant to new possibilities that would "upset the order of things."

So your bright and bold ideas meet a very chilly reception ... partially of your own making. Saturn in this position invites you to think of all the problems you face, all the reasons why you can't do what you want to do. It is depressing and discouraging and throws cold water all over your passionate desires. Whatever you want to do, a square from Saturn basically tells you "you can't do that." And there seems to be no way around, no convincing yourself otherwise, no appeal from that stern, harsh judgment.
What's really going on, however, is that an important area of your life -- one you depend on for safety and security -- is so well-defended and rigidly organized it offers you no flexibility ... even "for the sake of argument." What you want to do -- and all the suggestions you make -- would upset the order here.
Never mind that the ideas themselves are splendid. Disturbing this part of your life feels dangerous and impossible. Too many things that you really value would be uprooted or inconvenienced or unable to perform "as required." Changing this feels so overwhelming you can't even bring yourself to think about it -- or seriously suggest it. And so ... for a while, you are stuck -- with no solutions and no way out.

With Aries / Capricorn squares you feel brow-beaten, hindered, powerless and "up against impossible odds." Often you give up and stew rather than seeking more creative options. You may not even ask for what you want. You certainly don't think outside the box. You push hard, but the other side pushes back harder ... and you feel out-numbered and out-ranked.
Fighting this fight can be exhausting and infuriating. (But what you have in mind right now -- attractive though it may be -- is not the best way to handle your problem. Time ... and further thought will eventually show you this.)

This caught-in-a-quagmire intransigence will be a fact of life until mid-May -- and then, suddenly, like the clouds parting so the sun can break through, you'll take a more measured, conservative, step-by-step approach to the problem ... and find cooperation instead of a brick wall. We'll talk about that more when the time comes. Meanwhile, be aware that this narrow-minded, head-butting attitude you have now may make things worse before they get better -- and the harder you insist on doing things your way the more resistance you'll get.
Because this energy is going to hang around a while (a good long while, by the looks of it), I'll write more about it in future posts ..,. both to explain it further and to remind you that it is part of the picture now (as if you could ignore it!!) I'll also continue to say there is light at the end of this tunnel. (If Mercury weren't about to retrograde, it would be coming up really soon!!) And I'll give you details on what that light looks like ... so you'll recognize it when you see it arrive!!

The next event to keep in mind is that Mercury retrogrades in Aries this year ... starting on March 22. Even if you barely know the first thing about Astrology, you've probably heard stories about Mercury retrograde. How it screws up communications, how it's Murphy's Law in action -- anything that can go wrong ... will go wrong, and about how all kinds of plans and schedules get delayed and ruined because things are done wrong or misunderstood.
Well, I can't deny that some of this is true. And for some reason it will be "more true" the less you understand and appreciate what Mercury retrograde is trying to accomplish. Which is why I'll talk about that, too. And I'll show you how to work with Mercury retrograde ... how to look at what he wants to do and how you can help that happen. It makes you a partner in the ongoing renovations -- and that can sure feel better than being a target.
So ... hang around. We've got plenty to talk about.

Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
