Fracture Lines -- The Meaning of the Full Moon in Astrology -- Part 1

The Full Moon in Scorpio arrived as the week-end faded -- as on the horizon the Taurus Sun faced off against its celestial companion once again. The Full Moon itself formed at 6:58 PM (Mountain Time) on April 29.
It's a time of endings ... and decisions. And maybe a time for understanding, too -- about the Full Moon and its meaning. Because whether you know what's really happening or not, you'll have to live with the results. Maybe, finally, some solid information is a good thing.

Full Moons have a complicated reputation. On one side, there's the romance of it all ... and the fanciful dreams -- or maybe memories -- of romancing the one you love under the soft light of the Full Moon. You can feel the longing tug at your imagination -- to stroll arm in arm in the moonlight, ducking into the shadows from time to time for a kiss and a lingering embrace. It's the stuff of songs and poetry.
But there's a darker side to the mystique, too, where dogs and wolves -- and desert coyotes -- howl hauntingly at the Full Moon as it travels. People are edgy and irritable ... and strange reactions and lunacy abound. We all know that side of the Full Moon's mystery, too.

So, why are Full Moons such an issue? And what does Astrology have to say that can help explain what's going on?
Well, all Full Moons involve some kind of conflict. As the Full Moon forms, as it does every month ... and for several nights following, you feel pulled in two directions at once, forced to balance competing demands -- or desires, and perhaps required to try and serve two masters ... no matter how impossible you know that is -- logically. As the brilliant, unmistakable Full Moon ascends on the eastern horizon, Life's demands in two opposing / competing areas become equally insistent and intense.
These demands and conflicts are always familiar. You've played this game before. Maybe you live with them constantly. Were you born under a Full Moon? Do you have oppositions in your Natal Chart? Do you have a partner, friend or important "other" -- lover, boss, parent, rival -- with planets in opposition to yours? Do planets in the sky now oppose a Natal Planet?
These celestial patterns can mimic the effects of a Full Moon -- and increase the pressure they normally bring. Full Moons reveal options you either didn't know about or didn't want to look at. Now ... you can't avoid them.

Full Moons are educational. They promote growth and insist on balance. You have to strike bargains with yourself and find compromises that let you take care of business and meet your responsibilities, even when priorities ... diverge.
Opposition. That's what a Full Moon is all about ... life energies in conflict -- creating discomfort and conflicts in you. It sets up situations that demand action and highlight ambivalence. You want this ... but you also want that equally ... and for some reason, you can't just have both.
There's not enough time. (There are only 24 hours in a day ... and you're only human.) You can't be in two places at once. (Those pesky laws of physics say that's theoretically possible, but so far, humans haven't discovered how to live there.)
You're exhausted from being "of two minds" about something constantly. (People who want closure and certainty find Full Moon energy especially tough.) You need this ... but to have it, you also need that -- and building one robs vital resources from the other.
Life in Full Moon territory is messy, stressful and unsatisfying. Things are never ok, and rarely quiet for long. Psychologically, two rambunctious inner selves have each decided their time has finally come, dammit and they're not going to be cheated of some out-in-the-world time. It's their turn to be heard, to set the agenda, to drive life's train for a while ... and by God, they're suited up and ready to rock.

The problem is ... they have totally different agendas. Their needs and plans move life in totally different directions.
To take care of yourself ... you need to do one thing. To take care of your responsibilities to other people, honor your worldly commitments (your sense of who you are -- and where other people are counting on you), to fulfill your duty -- to meet public life demands ... or private life requirements ... you simply have to divide your resources -- at a time when each side is squalling for 110% investment and more.
Each Full Moon highlights a set of opposing priorities that need support and adjustment -- and it puts these toxic twins squarely on your To-Do schedule with the ultimatum that you look at this situation and fix it.

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.
Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.
If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.
Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.
Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.
Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.
The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.
Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.
So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.

What a lovely post you have created.. And WOW what a full moon it was!! Transformational! Spoken as only a Scorpio could. :) Enjoying your work - thank you.
Thank you very much for the kind words and for stopping by. I finally have my daily routine arranged so I have more time to write and post. I hope you continue to enjoy what you find here. Have a good day!
@enchantedspirit, Sun was in mysterious Scorpio and Moon in steadfast Taurus when I was born. I hope the combination of water and earth makes things grow and not just makes mud ! 😃.
My natal position also affected diffficult decisions to be made by my mother after my birth-whether to come to Canada to be with my father or go back to Ireland.
Definitely the opposition of the two main planets have pulled me in two directions. I’d like to think I have worked through those times now. 🌞 🌙
Mud is definitely more fertile than earth without water ... or water flooding everywhere because there's no earth to contain and channel it. Look at the lack of life in the Sahara desert, compared to the life in any average swamp. When water and earth combine, the situation is teeming with possibilities for something to grow and prosper.
Water and earth planets in a chart also give you plenty of talent for using your feelings and intuition constructively. You may have a natural feel for what will be worthwhile -- and profitable ... and what is just a waste of time.
Being born under a Full Moon in Scorpio, you will spend your life dealing with issues of what to fortify and strengthen and what to tear down and start over from basically scratch. You will constantly wrestle with questions of "what's good enough" vs. "what can be improved."
You will work to find the right balance between what assets (like time, energy, talent, ideas, as well as $$$ etc.) you want to keep for yourself and what you are willing to invest in others ... possibly for projects of mutual gain. But you will always be aware of what you can and do contribute -- and whether your contribution would be better spent investing it in yourself and your interests.
And, no, you will never be done dealing with these issues. That's part of your Karma for this life. You'll just learn to work with them more easily -- because of all the practice you'll get. [smile] Be aware of these choices and questions when they come up -- because they will constantly.
Each one is an invitation for you to do some more work on this life's curriculum. If you work consciously with these concerns, you'll gain more than if you just flounder around doing what's expedient at the moment. <--- Sadly, that's the way most people do it.
Thanks @enchantedspirit for your analysis. Studing astrology gives a great understanding of human nature. Thanks for sharing your knowledge to help others. ❤️
