Weekend in SF MoMA 在旧金山现代艺术博物馆过周末

I enjoy seeing a different world from the eyes of artists. That's why I like art museum, especially modern art museum so much.

Today I'd like to share my tips and experiences with the SF MoMA.

Different exhibitions spread on the 7 floors of SF MoMA. Some of the exhibitions/events are temporary. You may want to check the official website from time to time.

我觉得从艺术家眼中能看到一个截然不同的世界。特别是现代艺术家们，常常给我打开新世界的大门。因此我经常去现代艺术博物馆开脑洞。

今天我想给大家介绍一下旧金山的现代艺术博物馆。

旧金山的现代艺术博物馆总共七层，分布着照片、油画、雕塑等各种形式的现代艺术品。很多展览是限时的，所以爱好现代艺术的各位可以时不时查一下官网信息 。

Sculpture Terrace & Garden 雕塑花园

Although SF MoMA does not have a large yard as MoMA NY, it has two Sculpture Terraces and one Sculpture Garden, located on the 3rd, 5th and 7th floor.

The snowman you see on the photo is in the Sculpture Terrace on the 3rd floor. It is a life-size snowman created by Peter Fischli and David Weiss.

According to the description on the website. The work, which is made as water condenses and freezes around a copper figure in a refrigerated case, explores tensions between the ephemeral and permanent, and the natural and artificial.

It is temporary event from Dec 2017 to Spring 2018. I don't know how do they define spring, but if you want to see it, you'd better do it soon.

虽说旧金山现代艺术博物馆没有像纽约现代艺术博物馆那样的大型中庭，但是它有三个雕塑花园，分别在三层、五层和顶层。

下面这张照片上的雪人就在三楼的雕塑花园。它跟真人一般高，的确是用雪堆起来然后放在冰柜里展出，由Peter Fischli和David Weiss创作。 按照官方说法，这个雪人展示了永恒和瞬间，自然和人工之间的冲突和碰撞。——感觉艺术家也都是哲学家呀。

这个雪人展出到今年春天为止——我也不知道他们怎么定义春天的，不过你要是想看最好趁早去。

**Soundtrack Exhibition / Soundtrack展 **

I found the exhibition Soundtrack very interesting and inspiring. Unfortunately it is off now. Maybe you can find it in other art museums.
It was an exhibition of sound sculpture, video and performance works exploring the relation between sound and architectural space.

For example,

我是去年十二月去的。我觉得最有意思的是这个叫Soundtrack的临时展出（已结束）。

它试图用雕塑、视频、表演以及其他艺术形式表达声音和建筑空间的关系。

比如，

A drum placed upside down on the ceilling can still play music. 倒挂在天花板上的小鼓仍然可以演奏音乐。

Floating bowls and plates can make peaceful sounds. 漂浮在水里的碗盘能碰撞出让人安神的音调，颇有禅意。

Many people tried to talk with each other through the cans and lines. Have you tried this extremely old-fashioned telephone when you were a kid?
很多人试着通过罐子和那根细细的线交谈。你小时候玩过这种土电话吗？

I guess many people have seen a movie in which a detective/policeman tries to hear the criminals from the room next door with a glass cup.
我相信很多人看过侦探片/警匪片里面，侦探或者警察用一个玻璃杯听隔壁的声音的桥段吧。

The best part was the performance. It was in a dark room with 9 large screens. You saw people playing different muscial instruments in different rooms, but they were singing the same song. One of them was actually in a bathtub and water was his instrument. The song was beautiful and they sang it over and over again. I thought it was all but in the end, people put down their instrument one after another and showed up in other people's screen. They were actually in the same house!

It sounds boring from my words but if you got the chance, I highly recommend watch it from the beginning to the end.

最有意思的是大黑屋里的表演。屋子里有九个屏幕，每个屏幕上的人在装修截然不同的房间演奏着不同的乐器，但是唱着同一首歌。其中有个人躺在浴缸里，用水来做自己的乐器。到最后，那些人一个接一个地放下乐器，走出房间，然后出现在其他屏幕上。这时候你才发现原来他们都在一个房子里。

被我讲得很无趣，但看到这帮人原来都在一个地方的时候大家都不约而同地发出了赞叹。要是你有机会看的话，我强烈建议你从头看到尾，一定不会让你失望的。

Dining at SF MoMA / 吃

How can we ignore food if you want to spend a whole day or at least half day in the museum?

There're good choices for you.

Sightglass, a local artisanal coffee purveyor is on the 3rd floor. You can have coffee and pastries there. I prefer Sightglass to Blue Bottle.

Cafe 5 offers a wide range of food, burger, pizza, fish, meat, as well as illy coffee and desserts. Extra points for the view of sculpture garden on the 5th floor.

If they are still not good enough to you, there's even a Michelin-star restaurant In Situ on the first floor. It accepts walk-in guests as well. I've never been there though.

要在里面呆大半天怎么能没有吃的呢？

不用担心，旧金山艺术博物馆里面有很多不错的选择，并不只是随便给你点吃的而已。

三楼的Sightglass是当地赫赫有名的咖啡馆，提供咖啡和蛋糕。我个人觉得咖啡品质略胜Blue Bottle.

五楼的Cafe 5提供汉堡、比萨、鱼、肉、咖啡以及甜点，更赞的是它就在雕塑花园边上。有什么比得上一边看风景一边吃东西的。

要是你觉得这两家都不够好，一楼甚至还有一家米其林餐厅In Situ，号称不预约也行。我从没去过所以不能提供太多信息。

How to get there
SF MoMA is only 10min walk from the Powell Bart station. I think taking public transportation is the best way to get there.
Driving in SF is not recommended, just imagine driving in New York but with much more uphills and downhills. And the parking rate is ridiculous in the city.

Hours
Fri - Tue 10AM to 5PM, and Thurs until 9PM.

Don'ts
Everyone knows the no touch, no eating, no drinking, no flashes rules in the galleries.
Don't bring tripods and selfie sticks as well - stretch your arm if you want to take a photo with paintings and sculptures:)
And
Don't forget to visit the MoMA store! Many creative souvenirs!

交通 旧金山艺术博物馆离鲍威尔BART站走路只需10分钟。强烈不建议开车——想象下在纽约开车的感受，再加上无数上坡下坡，而且市里停车也很贵。

时间 周三关门。周五到周二早10点到晚5点开门，周四开到晚上九点。

不要做这些事
大家都知道在展馆里面不能触碰展品、不能吃东西、不能喝水和饮料、不能开闪光灯照相。另外要注意的是，不能带三脚架和自拍杆，要和展品合影只能靠臂长了：）
最后
不要忘记去逛博物馆的商店，里面有好多艺术感满满的纪念品，我每次都能逛好久。
