🎨 "Revelation" - my surrealistic approach to the One Million Dollar Piece
One Million Dollar... The amount is something, probably all artists dream of, for getting for one of their works at some point in their career... unfortunately its not the price tag, but the theme of an exhibition, I participated in.
It was a group show, and we were given the size, 100x230cm (40"x90").. pretty big, I might add, and in the upper right corner there was to be written $ 1000000
To me it was clear, that there had to be a doll like figure, part of a machinery, which she was revealing at the same time:
I had the idea while sitting in a restaurant and so I made a quick sketch on a tiny piece of paper, like the one waiters use here in Germany:
The painting is on canvas and I did it in my old masters technique
As usual I started with an underpainting in acrylics
Here a detail of the work in progress.
I underpaint skin tones in green as it looks more realistic later on
After some 3000 hours it looked like this:

Huh, a curious topic Reinhard... So the painting has to look like $1M piece or it has to be composed of the elements that are worth $1M as net cost? 😅
🙃 sounds odd, I know... it was just the theme of the show and we called the artworks "One million dollar piece" because of the number that had to be on there... had nothing to do with price point or anything like that... phew.. Don't know, if I had participated, if it cost me $1M to do it 😜 it was already hard enough!

No master has ever fallen from the sky. What counts for me is, that we do the best we can at our current level and thereby try to always push the limits out a little further.
To me every painting is still a learning experience!
I think any form of art is a continuous learning experience, and that is the best thing about being an artist, you never feel you're working, but you are always learning while you add to your body of work :)

Yes, David, its a work from 2012 and it was quite a story. But I can paint one for your CEO's office in your headquarters with a model of your choice 😀

Damn it, i think i will need to buy it on a secondary market from a private collector then, you know why?
because first of all.. it is amazing... But this is nothing new :)
Secondly it reflects what we are doing, building a mechanism, for talent discovery which is so well illustrated by gears on the left and model on the right :) Butterfly with hypnotizing things is yet but another perfectly placed symbol :)

That is why when i saw it my jaw dropped and i had my fingers crossed that you might still have it lol Anyway buying art on a secondary market increases the price for your future work, right? So maybe i will be able to afford it for my private collection which most definitely will start with one of your works :)
Other than that i think you have plenty of time to finish another one, that does not need to be a copy. I will tell when you can start as i still need to fix quite a few things before i can think of opening BeScouted Headquarters as it will take some time for me too, probably even more than 7200 hours lol
Arrrghh... yes, I can see how this painting was really meant for you. Nevertheless, I'm afraid the current owner won't let go of it. When he bought it for his newly renovated home, he hung it in an empty room and placed everything else to go with it!
Anyways, I don't think we need to come up with the extra cash for secondary market purchases. When the right time is here, I'll create a painting just for you!
