"Glass breaks." This piece of wisdom was once the answer from a company that was supposed to deliver and mount a number of glass panes for my roof after two of them were broken overnight. Of course, it was nobody's fault 😡
Unfortunately, it can also happen with a glass Painting
"Glas bricht". Diese Weisheit war einmal die Antwort von einer Firma, die mir eine Reihe von Glasscheiben für mein Dach liefern sollte, nachdem zwei davon über Nacht zerbrochen waren. Natürlich konnte dann auch keiner was dafür 😡
Leider kann es aber auch mit einem Hinterglasbild passieren.
In about 30 years I had 5 broken glass paintings. Three of them broke while I worked on them and I was able to turn two of them into something else, that was good. For example, an image of a ruin became a ruined ruin....
It is especially aggravating, when a customer gets the mishap, as described in the Story of "Isis and the Moon
In the second case, the picture actually fell off the wall. The owner found it broken on the floor, when he came back from a vacation. Looking back, we could only explain it in such a way that it was not hung on the hook, but only sitting with the wood of the frame on the nail in the wall. With the airport nearby, there are often small vibrations, and so it has probably moved forward by fractions of a millimeter over the course of time, until it finally fell to the ground.

Im zweiten (Un)fall fiel das Bild doch tatsächlich von der Wand. Der Besitzer fand es zerbrochen am Boden liegend, als er aus dem Urlaub zurück kam. Wir konnten es uns im Nachhinein nur so erklären, dass es nicht richtig am Haken hing, sondern nur mit dem Holz des Rahmens auf dem Nagel in der Wand auf lag. Da das mit dem nahe gelegenen Flugplatz immer wieder kleine Erschütterungen gibt, ist es wohl im Laufe der Zeit immer wieder um Bruchteile eines Millimeters nach vorne gewandert, bis es schließlich zu Boden fiel.
Unlike with the picture of the ancient Egyptian goddess, the owner of this painting did not want it to be painted again. He wanted to preserve the broken original in some way. We agreed that I should reassemble the pieces in some kind of stained glass technique.
It has indeed become an interesting picture again. Unfortunately, I only have a photo of the version before the fall....
Anders als mit dem Bild der altägyptischen Göttin, wollte es der Besitzer dieses Bildes nicht neu gemalt haben. Er wollte das kaputte Original auf irgend eine Weise erhalten. Wir einigten uns darauf, dass ich die Scherben in einer Art Tiffany Technik wieder zusammenfügen sollte.
Es ist tatsächlich wieder ein interessantes Bild daraus geworden. Leider habe ich aber nur ein Foto von der Version vor dem Sturz...

Wie schade - hätte gerne die geflickte Version gesehen, hat bestimmt auch seinen Charme.
Zum Bild selbst: durch die Windrose werden für mich die blauen und grünen Flächen zu Meer und Land, die von der Schildkröte bereist werden. Ich weiß nicht, ob das Intention war, aber für mich bekommt es dadurch nochmal eine besondre Vielschichtigkeit.
Ich hoffe, ihr hattet eine tolle Vernissage. Vermutlich werde ich nächstes Wochenende rein schauen!
Ich muß da wirklich mal hinfahren und fragen, ob ich ein Foto machen darf. Habe es selbst lange nicht gesehen. Das Reise Motiv ist definitiv da. Und schließlich war ich ja mal Navigator auf einem U-boot.
Very nice and so bad that it is broken. But as long as you can do something else it's already great.

Glad you are able to restore the ruins of your paintings. Interestingly there is a uniquness and natural beauty about ruins. They become timeless and can last forever.
I see it the same way as you with the ruins. There was a time, when I was so fascinated, that I barely drew something else...
There is always an obvious (vibrational) explanation, but in my experience things fall from walls (or crack upon them) for very specific reasons when it concerns special works like you make. It makes sense therefore to repair it and "face" that breakage for a while. I'm sure it made an interesting challenge for you. Who did it break for then....? Which turtle was going faster than they should have been going and missing the right turn?
Interesting point. The owner is a psychiatrist and maybe he brought home some strange vibes. Who knows?
Jedes Kunstwerk erzählt seine eigene Geschichte wie aus das Bild der altägyptischen Göttin. Ich finde es schön, dass der Besitzer das Bild nicht neu bemalt haben wollte. Liebe Grüsse

Glass breaks, that's the tragedy, but in a way, I think it makes a glass painting valuable too. Think of a fragile Chinese vase.. if it was made from plastic, even with the same amount of work put in, it wouldn't be the same.
Glass may break - thats something I think about very often when organizing an exhibition. Mainly because I would still love to have you and your extraordinary work with us at one of our Layrinth exhibitions. At the same time naked fear seazes me just when I think about the worst case scenario: One of your paintings turning into a pile of shards.
Have learned to live with it, and actually it seems that glass has become less breakable today. Could also be, I learned better how to handle it. Still nervous though, when I send my pieces somewhere and I have to trust the person hanging it 😱
