TRIPS: La Colonia Tovar

in #art5 years ago (edited)

The experience of traveling has changed now that I'm thinking about photography. I say this because La Colonia Tovar is more than a familiar place for me, living just 45 minutes from there make it a regular place to distract us or to take family from other parts of the country. This time, now with my camera, the experience was another because the place isn't the same and my need to document is different. The journey of one day became much more interesting in my attempt to bring you a piece of Colonia Tovar.

Located in the state of Aragua and capital of the municipality Tovar, was founded on April 8, 1843 by German immigrants. As a tourist town maintains the culture of its origin and are famous for being the Germany of the Caribbean. Its location at almost 2000 meters above sea level allows visitors to Maracay, La Victoria or Caracas a refuge from the heat of the cities. Or at least that's what many of its visitors remember.

La Colonia is about 65 km from the Capital of the country and to get there you must go through beautiful landscapes, how I could, from the window of the car, I tried to capture the beauty and immensity of these roads on one side of the cliff.

A family trip with my mother, brother and cousin to celebrate the beginning of Holy Week 2018, was the first time that my cousin Maria Victoria visited the Colonia Tovar, since being from the state of Táchira the small German village is more than 12 hours away.

Being a tourist village is the same as being a trading village, here you can find a lot of variety in food and sweets, both traditional and the classic pizza or hamburger. I would say that the most characteristic food of the Colonia are its German sausages and strawberries with cream. But you can also get a lot of handicrafts and the famous souvenirs. Although on this occasion we couldn't go to the places where chocolate and wine are made, they are part of the things you can buy in the local shops and restaurants.

In Colonia Tovar there are often arts and crafts that come from the Venezuelan culture, much of our culture has come together with theirs, I feel that each time they become a more picturesque and diverse town.

The flowers are another attraction of the place here you can see a very simple one. But in my Post Petals you can see another series of very beautiful photos belonging to Colonia Tovar.

It is beautiful to find the small spaces of La Colonia Tovar, the lady cooking, the hands that attend to you, the flower that grows and appears in the sun. Being aware of these details was my change of perspective when I visited the Colonia with my camera. It is normal that as tourists we don't see much of these details, but now as a photographer it' s nice to see the memory of the instant.

The church of Colonia Tovar is in the central square of the village, following the European culture is one of the main attractions to visit. This photo surprised me because there is a delicacy in a temple with such a frontage that it is difficult to witness; and here it is.

This is a meeting place for families, children of all ages and families of all numbers, it doesn't change the fact of seeing children of all ages discovering new things that they will only see in La Colonia Tovar.

And in their surprises then is the calm and patience of the one who lives there, always working to maintain the small Colonia Tovar.

This last photograph is from the viewpoint of where you can paraglide, people from all over the country come to live this experience. I've never done it before but it's just a pleasure to see people fly through the sky with so much emotion.
