African Monopoly Capital - Trinkets offered to the Masses [ //Hui !Gaeb Africa ]

in #architecturalphotography7 years ago (edited)

This is my entry for daily #architecturalphotography contest hosted by @juliank

A building in //Hui !Gaeb constructed circa 1970 (unverified) I found it interesting to see this when one easily forgets how trinkets were given to tribal leaders to gain their cooperation in the exploitation of the masses. The same has been true for generations. There are always those willing to turn blind eyes to what is really happening. They have a price for being bought: if they were given part of the loot from those who are currently in power, they develop blindness.

This disease is nothing new. The designs adorning this building should not be misinterpreted. Yes, this does celebrate our heritage, but to understand the dynamic which informs the actions of monopolies, one has to examine facts that at first, do not meet the eye. To illustrate this, when this building was constructed, people who represented these tribes would not have been employed in these buildings. They were barred from entering this city without a document saying why they were there. Essentially, they were foreigners to this hallowed place known as //Hui !Gaeb for generations.

Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael) in the year before his death on a visit to //Hui !Gaeb - there during a national tour to commemorate twenty years since the murder of Steve Biko - repeated his now well-known argument that goes (I paraphrase for want of an accurate recording):

Capitalists never tell the truth. When they do tell the truth, it is a result of a double lie. Revolutionaries on the other hand, tell the truth and if they fail to do that, they are forced to answer to their people.
