Schwarzenstein (3.368m) - Mountaineering

Last year about this time my climbing buddy Peter and me went on a spontaneous 2 day mountain hike to "Schwarzenstein" in Tyrol Austria. A quite easy mountain but still remote and unfortunately we only had a quite short weather window for the ascent and a long way to even get to the base.

So we started our late ascent about 7pm from 1256m after 5 hours of driving.

Our target for the first day was to reach the "Berlinerhüttte" a rather big hut on 2044m and summit the mountian next day. We reached the hut almost in the middle of the night. After 9km hiking almost entirely at night we just went to bed for a couple of hours to rest.

After a good breakfast early morning we started for the summit and saw for the first time how big actually the hut was.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains we continued our way higher and higher.

It didn't take long and we already reached the first snow form the glacier.

And then we saw our summit for the first time hidden behind big clouds .

But we had one big problem. 2 days before the mountain got new snow, so now it was quite hard to continue fast. With every step we sunk in.

We had to hurry up, also the weather started to change and the wind started to gain on power.

Almost at the summit only 100m below.

Unfortunately we had to go back before reaching the summit, because the weather changed pretty fast and we still had to descent the whole way down to our parking car.

After passing the hut and a short brake there, it started to rain like hell. So we contiued our descent pretty wet and exhausted and arrived our parking car a few hours later to finish the short trip.
