Hello Steemit,
Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Ryan and I'm from Houston, Texas. I am a graduate of the University of Houston and recently quit my job to work from home and spend more time with my family.
I keep a small personal library and often find myself talking the wife’s ear off regarding something I have just read. I want to channel these moments into a series of posts and explore these ideas with you all.
My political views favor practical solutions for decentralizing decision-making in politics and government. I don’t believe we are going to vote our way to the good society.
Buckminster Fuller’s dictum on social change strikes me as spot on:
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
My goal is to promote the replacement of legacy institutions and governance structures with emergent, consensual and horizontal forms of association.
This is a call for peaceful anarchy but I have a slightly different perspective than the typical libertarian anarchist.
I am working on developing my own holistic or dialectic vision of libertarianism. This is an approach that eschews the rhetoric about government being a violent and criminal organization and instead focuses on the fact that government is ultimately based on widespread legitimacy and consent. The idea that the state is some external or alien entity sucking the life out of society is something I have grown to see the limits of. I hope to share this message in order to help create a better libertarianism.
Aside from politics and economics I also have a love for retro television shows and commercials. Growing up in the 80’s and early 90’s, I feel like I experienced a golden age of television. I realize this is nostalgia talking but there was something special about this era. And in the spirit of preserving it, I collect and curate clips of classic television from my childhood. I share many of them on youtube.

Greetings Ryan and welcome to steemit. Wish I could share the 80s and 90s love of TV, but I was stationed in Germany most of that time and can only relate through reruns. Wish you all the best on here.
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I was born in 1985 in Oregon, had a Nintendo, was watching the Power Rangers. Nostalgia is our song. Agreed, love golden ages of television. Love this new world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain which is how we make bad government smaller. Hypothetically, bigger government can help if government were pure in heart, perfect, good, for we the people, theoretically, but historically, government becomes abusive in many countries around the world for so many centuries. We the people have to keep government as small as possible and as accountable as possible. Seeking after anarchy is so much better than getting sucked into welfare, into tyranny, into alleged safety promised by the state.
Ah yes I remember the Power Rangers. Being born in 1983, I was the perfect age for the Ninja Turtles. Saturday morning cartoons were the best.
Of course, we agree about the state. My focus is on how to actually get to a stateless future and what the arguments look like that might be convincing to non-anarchists. I guess you might say a non-utopian anarchism is my goal. More on that later.
I'm a minarchist. I would be an anarchist at least in theory. I believe that minarchism is at least a step towards anarchism it seems. Good to have goals but it is also important to find ways to get there step by step and to get people involved in that. It is good as people become more independent where they don't have to rely on government. And Bitcoin, Ubuntu, Bit Torrent, Steemit, and many things are helping us towards that as well.
