30 Stories - Nineteen - THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIKE IN NORWAY

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,

Today I want to tell you about the most incredible hike I have done this summer. As usual I only do a minimum of research before I start walking up a mountain, because I like to be surprised. Also, I don't like to plan to far ahead. This particular hike came to life because we were stuck with the bus somewhere in the middle of Norway and we were lucky enough to make it to the parking lot of the campsite of this incredible valley. I tried to make the most out of the situation and asked the girl at the reception what the most beautiful place in the neighbourhood was, she said there were many trails around, but only one would be truly unforgettable.

SLOW DOWN AND YOU'LL SEE SO MUCH MORE

The Norwegians grade the difficulty of their trails through the use of colours, green being the easiest one and black being the hardest one. Sort of like the gradation of ski slopes. This particular hike was coded black. It started off quite easy and somehow we were all quite confident this hike would be fairly easy.

THE CREW

Before starting this hike I told everyone that I had done several red coded hikes in Norway and that they were already quite intense and that this black one should definitely not be underestimated. Somehow, nobody seemed to care... (especially Lewis, my dog)

NATURE'S POWER

We came across the most powerful waterfall I have ever witnessed and I couldn't help but go as close as I could to feel as much of the incredible force of the water as possible.

THE FIRST VIEWPOINT

After quite a bit of hiking I turned around and saw this unforgettable view. You would think I would be almost at the top of the climb, but I was only halfway..

THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN

Still a long way to go..

After 4 hours of hiking I was standing on top of that peak and I couldn't help but think about the words of the local girl, there is only one hike in the neighbourhood that is really worth it.

She was SOOO right!!!

Don't hesitate to ask me any questions about our life on the road or this series of posts that I am writing.

Cheers!

PS: For those who don't know me, I live in a converted schoolbus with my girlfriend, my dog and my two and a half year old daughter Fenna. This summer we spend four months in Norway with our hostel on wheels and these pictures tell the tales of our most relevant experiences. I changed my 30 day challenge's title into 30 stories, because of the feedback of @geekgirl, she made me realise that my life is quite different from the regular daily 9-5 routine and that I can share some more insights into how we spend our days. As a side-note I must say that I am still quite proud that I am persisting to write daily for 30 days straight.

@Climbing-Trail Hi, I write about hiking adventures as well if you are interested in some materials on Virginia/USA... Not sure how your account works. Also I'm from Russia and immigrated to US 6 years ago, so my English is not that perfect, but who knows, you might like my mistakes...

Thank you that you reached out to me! I'm pretty naive in finding new posts. You can read about it here and here.

I'm from Germany, so my english isn't perfect neither. There is a high chance that I wouldn't even recognize. ;-)

ha! Awesome! or wunderbar :)) I visited Germany 4 years ago, Karlsruhe and Heidelberg, great country!

Wow, yet another incredible story! Really beautiful pictures.

Where there any protection on the last part of the climb to the top of the mountain? It looks pretty steep...

The @Climbing-Trail is an account dedicated to give climbing, alpinism and hiking a plattform here on Steemit. It is curated by @HaTo.

You're welcome. That sounds perfect, just at the edge where you don't need to bring to much gear. :-)

Thank you. I hope you like the channel and find the articles I choose interesting.

Thanks! No, we did not bring any ropes or protection, but it was pretty doable. In my opinion mountains always look steeper from far away (this one was quite impressive still). There were some parts where there were ropes attached into the rocks, but only at the very top. Thanks for dedicating a channel to climbing and hiking!

Great post, great Norway, great hike :)

It must be so awesome to hike in Norway! Pictures are incredible! I'm getting materials to write about the hiking in Colorado... will post in couple days. But I admire your lifestyle!.. @toocurious

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I will check out your blog!

I love adventures beautiful place
