@tipU Investors Report: 27.03.2018 - Curation Reward Payouts, Increasing Profits, Code Upgrades

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Hi guys,

This post is intended to inform @tipU investors (users who delegated SP to @tipU or invested STEEM/SBD) about current development of the service.
Code Upgrades

In recent days two major changes were made:

  • the income is added to each investors account after each vote, not at the end of the day. This ensures that the person who delegated/invested just before the daily payout won't receive profit (because his delegation did not generated any income yet) which would lower payouts to other investors
  • the @tipU vote value is now calculated based also on reward pool variables, not only current steem price. This allows to better calculate voting power needed for each vote and lowers the chance of "overvoting"
Checking Pending Payout

Because at any given moment @tipU will now know the amount of profit for each investor, it will be possible for investors to check their pending profit payout by sending simple message to @tipU. It's a small thing but some investors may find it useful, I should finish coding it in a few days.

Paying Curation Rewards To Investors

This feature was not officially announced yet because it's still in development but basically 50% of all curation rewards will be paid out to investors. This feature is generally intended to increase investors payouts and attract new ones :)

Increasing Profits

Now the most important part ;) If I would like to generate more profit from upvotes, the easiest way would be to lower the upvote multiplier which currently is at 2.5 (this means that if someone pays 1 SBD, he receives 2.5 SBD upvote). But the 2.5 upvote profit is kinda trademark for @tipU and lowering it could discourage a lot of vote buyers.

So currently I'm focusing on increasing the curation rewards, as they are part of the payouts. The idea is simple - allow higher upvotes for authors, who generate more curation rewards. The upvote multiplier will stay at 2.5 but max allowed upvote value will be higher for best authors (for example 5 SBD instead of 2 SBD currently).

In theory this should help to promote better authors who create better content because better content gets more upvotes and by this allows for higher curation rewards (of course timing of the upvote is still important). Promoting valuable content is also very good for steem ecosystem.

So in a couple of days I should finish coding the tracking algorithm that will tell @tipU how much curation rewards each author gives on average. Of course I will take into account only posts that were upvoted by @tipU.

The alternative way is to try to predict post value before upvoting but this requires stuff like AI machine learning :) There is already a bot that tries to do it, you can check it out here:
https://steemit.com/@trufflepig
Maybe we can join forces?

This sums it up, please feel free to ask questions if you have any :)

If you would like to invest @tipU, please check out this post.

@tipU pays 100% of income to investors (no fees) + on top of that also 50% of curation rewards. Kinda best deal on steem ;)

the eyes the eyes... are those SBD dolars ?

Yes, yes they are :))
By the way, Ive noticed your deposit - please consider using part of it as investment for daily payouts :)

I have been away few month from social, You have a new service? can you explain @cardboard ?

Check out this post :)

Because you have a deposit, you can tell @tipu to upvote posts like this:
@tipu upvote this post with 0.02 sbd (or any other value). Currently @tipu is recovering voting power so he only listens to me:)

tipuvote!

Of course, I love @tipu! One of my favorite people!

Hi, I'm the developer of @trufflepig (and a great fan of @ginabot, otherwise I'd never saw your mentioning :-)).

Quite a coincidence, I had kind of a discussion about bid bots today. Full disclosure, despite having them used myself, I'm not very fond of them. To my mind plain bid bots are more harm than useful to Steem. If you can simply buy upvotes, this platform's premise, the proof of brain, is eroded.

However, I also don't think bid bots should be banned or frowned upon either. The last thing that has ever worked is a prohibition. Besides, if people want to sell their vote, let them. However, there should be means or ways to encourage people to invest money in a way to help this platform in general, so that everyone benefits. If this means adding some kind of quality control to bid bots, so be it. However, the simple stuff that most bid bot owners label as quality control (not older than 3 days and at least 2 paragraphs) is a joke. The stuff that @trufflepig does might hint a bit more in the right direction, but is far from perfect.

Well, and to be honest, I did think about creating a bid bot with parts of his codebase (although I'm still hesitant, see my remarks above :-D).

In what language is your bot written by the way? @trufflepig is 100% Python 3 (and quite memory demanding!)

But I am not so sure if using trufflepig will increase your profit margin, it will be quite the opposite I am afraid. In order for the Natural Language Processing to work, he is already very picky about the stuff that is allowed to become part of the training set and to make predictions on. So about 40-60 % of posts get filtered already in the early stages because of being too short or having too many spelling mistakes or just by not being written in English. So having to turn down around half of your customers might not be very profitable in the end :-D

Hi there, thanks for noticing this post:)

I agree about voting bots impact on steem ecosystem but so far they are the only way to create some kind of venture that brings steady income for investors (well, aside from my second project, @cfminer :). But I like that there are so many voting bots now - at least the income does not concetrate so much in few ones.

It would be really cool if we could have a way to stop promoting spamers. Maybe some api-based blacklist that all voting bots would use - in the end its in intrest of everyone to increase steem value by creating and promoting good content. Maybe some day :)

For now I'll probably stick to manually handled blacklist - the AI will have to wait :)

I noticed one thing though - the good content receives much more comments than spam because people engage. Maybe thats the simple way to filter out the spammers?

If you are just looking for spam detector as a first step, this project might be interesting: https://steemit.com/steemdev/@andybets/steem-sincerity-improved-anti-spam-api

I just figured that you already knew about this, just saw @tipu's trace in the comments :-D

Yeah, although I thought its more about comments? Will have to contact the author, it might be good idea to check every vote buyer using this :)

Oh, almost forgot - tip! :)

Nice feature and thanks!

Hi @smcaterpillar! You have received 0.3 SBD tip from @cardboard!

You can now delegate SP / invest in @tipU for daily profit:) Click here to learn more :)

Brought to you by @tts. If you find it useful please consider upvote this reply.

Maybe you can create a site like smart steem? It would be a pretty cool feature.

Webdev is not my strong point but it simple web with info for users/investors seems doable :) wish I had more time :)

Great post! 👍

You got an upvote, you need to follow this account for more upvotes in the future 👊🏼

How do I withdraw the steem I invested?

Let me know in the comments or send me a message :)
edit: oh, and SBD to send commands to @tipu

Withdraw is for withdrawing deposit that is used to send tips / upvotes.
Refunding investments is done manually :)

Alright, can you help me refund 50 steem? Thanks @cardboard

Sure, will have access to the bot in about 10 hours.
