Areas of intention

in #steem5 years ago

@whatsup said something the other day in a comment, saying about all the people who stuck through on Steem not knowing whether they should or not. It is kind of a strange statement isn't it? Does anyone say the same about Facebook or Twitter and wonder later, "What if I stayed?"

People quit using the other platforms all the time and then just restart again. No one seems to care.

Steem is different of course, because they aren't actually questioning it from a social perspective, it is the financial consideration that is the main factor. People are happy to write off all the time they spend scrolling through pictures of people's lunches and posting pictures of their own but, once there is some kind of value on the table, attitudes change and they start to value their time.

Does anyone say, "I regret leaving Steem because I lost connection with my friends?"

I think some might.

I know for me who hasn't had time to spend in chats for the last few months, I miss talking to people. I used to be able to spend a little bit of time each night between posts talking shit with people on discord and having a laugh over so many things. On the weekends, I had the chance to spend a bit more time than normal and get to know people quite well. The social aspect of Steem for me is very important, even though I often write about less social parts of the platform. Hopefully when things settle down with work and home I can get back into some of the chatting and connect up with people again - if they remember me.

This is the internet. People move on quickly.

Valuing our time is of course an important life factor I think because it takes time to do anything in life. The only thing that doesn't take time is after something stops moving, death. At the point something is no longer moving at all, it is timeless. Of course, that is not the case with how we experience life as experience itself is tied to the movement of life and even if we as an individual are not moving, the world continues to swirl around us and, affect us even if we are unwilling to move with intention.

Which takes me back to @whatsup's comment and what I consider is a factor of those who stay, intention. Although there are many here who are only in it for the potential monetary value, for most perhaps it is likely a complex mixture of reasons including the social and greater societal aspects which could fundamentally change the way the world operates at various levels.

Yes, some of that is tied to currencies but this also ties into governance, equality, freedom, responsibility and the growth of personal creativity through participation in a diverse community. There are many reasons, the Steem blockchain is just a unifying factor that ties them all together and the coin a unifying factor in the trade of goods, services and ideas.

Intention of movement is important I think, for the individual at least. Do you Steem with intention? How about living - do you live with intention? Intention brings in responsibility of choice and accountability of action, two things that many people seem to want to avoid these days.

Perhaps that is why so many people struggle to stay on Steem - it makes them publicly accountable for their behavior. I wonder what would happen in the real world if all the people who complain about money issues opened up their spending habits - how many would have areas of opportunity available they chose not to take? I know many who complain about the price of milk yet spend 100€ on Saturday night drinks. In Finland, 1 beer at a bar is about 7 litres of milk.

Areas of opportunity.

I stick it out here on Steem because I enjoy interacting with all of the people from all over the world. I never had as many unique interactions that actually lead to real conversations, projects, etc on other platforms. Steem is just different. Something about all of it combined with the mystique of crypto in general makes for a roller coaster ride that I haven't decided to jump off of yet. It's been interesting to say the least!

I never had as many unique interactions that actually lead to real conversations, projects, etc on other platforms.

Not mny projects surround Facebook or Instagram - here people actually get together and create stuff. It is pretty cool.

i had compared it with early days of internet when you had to have some knowledge and invest time to learn how to use it. so people using it were specific type of people.

There is a definite selection bias here which is why the churn is so high. Not everyone is ready for steem and crypto in its infancy

I live with intention of creativity. Every day is a good day if I create something. And most days these past 7 years it's been like that. At first I created for my blog, then a podcast challenge presented itself and now for a year and half I'm creating also on Steem.

Yes, monetary reward or potential of reward in the future is important to me on this platform, like for anybody else. But I also value the connection I make with my readers and with the authors I read.

I try not to spend time on chats off chain and would rather comment or post publicly on the blockchain.

To me, if it's worth saying at all, it's worth saying it in public.

Intentions? I get paid to sh!t post bruh! How cool is that. :)

It is a pretty awesome deal really, which makes me wonder why so many people have issues staying :D

Does anyone say, "I regret leaving Steem because I lost connection with my friends?"

I first laughed at this but then some people's name popped on my mind. Yeah, there's a connection I will miss.
Steem is a breathing place for me! There are actually hundreds of opportunity here in Steem. Maybe that's why some of the few still hanging around.
BTW it's your wife and daughter? If you are the photographer, I have to give you a round of applause! 👏👏👏

The opportunities are growing too, and the barrier to entry is low considering the possibilities.

Yes, thanks :)

April probably steem with intention more than live what's intention. Sad but true. I do miss many of the folks who have gone on left steem behind. Thanks for sharing

I think many of them will be back in time also as the space becomes more normie friendly

It's an interesting thing to try to take the money out of it. I have made friends and people I care about. I still worry about @nonameslfttouse an this guy named @skeptics we were minnow together, but he was one of those guys who like to fight, so he kept getting flagged. lol, but I enjoy other points of view and interesting peope.

I'd be lying if I tried to pretend the money doesn't natter ever. :)

Most days I don't worry about the specific earning, just the general progress. It's nice to combine the social element with the money, but it does impact the experience for sure

I'd be lying if I tried to pretend the money doesn't natter ever. :)

It is an aspect that adds a new layer of complexity and game to it.

I am hoping that as things settle, many of the people will come back but, who knows.

Don’t remind me of the amount of equivalent Steem I spent last week on vacation!

:D :D

every purchase is Steem Power forgone :D

you don't care quitting FB because you don't have stocks in it :D powering down and selling steem is like selling stocks from the company :D
i think everyone came here because they heard that it is a way of earning shit by posting blogs. now most had high expectations of getting rich now and easy. some of them did some research, got invested in the blockchain... some just used the opportunity and powered down and sell on the high and move away, and some just calculated that time spend > money earned so they quit.
i am kinda in the middle of it. my favourite community "evolved" and fell apart because of that. i never got to steem this, steem that communities as i don't really know a lot about it (learned quite a bit but...) and most of the other non crypto communities are doing so so as there is no that many people.
Most of them that quit will come back if prices goes up.

"I regret leaving Steem because I lost connection with my friends?" probably not, as you don't quit if you care :D

I find it funny that many of the social media execs don't let their kids use it :D

Most of them that quit will come back if prices goes up.

And they won't care about satoshis.

as you don't quit if you care :D

pretty much.

they know how evil they are :D

8 months ago i had no idea what satoshi is, and i can only blame steem for caring about it :D

Yep.

In the end people will use crypto and not give a toss about why.
