Steemimages top five: Week eight: Portrait and Selfie photography

This weeks selection of photographs curated by the real life humans at @steemimages is for #portriat and #selfie photography and art works. We found a nice selection from steemians from all over the world. These posts are still avaiable for upvoting on so please do go along and give them some support.

The criteria for portrait and selfie photography is quite different. Formal portrait photographers are trying to capture something unique or significant in the subject while selfie's are rarely thought about at all other than trying to appear attractive. For clarity:-

Portrait: A painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders.
Selfie: A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.

In second place with 3 upvotes and resteems (vote weight 4.62%) we have @andresbriceno another very skillful photographer.

In third place with some very interesting images from a cosplay event we have @carllogan with 2 upvotes and resteems and one comment vote (vote weight 4.62%)

In forth place with 2 upvotes and resteems and two comment votes (vote weight 4.19%) we have the photo and artworks of a very new member of steemit. @thenymph is a very talented artist and a great asset to steemit.
Show her some love.

In fifth place with 2 upvotes and resteems (vote weight 3.08) we have @rocksg with a very nice example of the bokeh effect in photography.

I think you will agree that these images above are quite exceptional and worth your attention. @steemimages doesn't follow any accounts and we don't play favorites. The image quality (I.Q.) of the content is the most important point.

This is not a competition as such but we thought you might like to know who got the most upvotes from @steemimages this week. The data can all be checked for accuracy on steemworld. Every post that gets upvoted also gets resteemed.

Tips!
More people will see your work if it is tagged correctly. Using the most appropriate tags for your photographs will increase the number of views and potential upvotes that you get from people interested in that topic.

Many images that didn't make the cut could have been much improved and better from a compostional point of view if they had been cropped in tighter to the subject of the photos.

All of us steemians on the various steem Dapps have a very simple task. To find the best content and reward it. What is good content is of course impossible to quantify as it is totally subjective. Our voting criteria is quite simple.

The criteria that is most important to @steemimages is image quality(IQ). Images that are sharp and with high resolution, unless the intention is to use some form of bokeh as seen above i.e. the visual quality of the out-of-focus area of a photograph.

Many of these posts had a few votes and some posts had no votes at all. Which is pretty surprising considering the quality of the work produced. We hope that our upvotes and resteems will encourage you to keep posting and get more eyeball's on your photos.

It always a good idea to ask yourself why you took a particular shot? What was it about that image that attracted your interest?

**Food photography was once the sole preserve of glossy magazines and advertising agencies trying to sell products. Today many people like to photograph their food and share it on social media. To get a good shot you need to be either directly above the dish or at 35 degree angle to the face of the dish. Of course in reality there are no rules in photography as always. To get the best image quality you need good light or lighting **

We do check for plagiarism on every post that we vote on and resteem. So far we have only made one mistake which we quickly rectified and removed our votes from the offending post.

If you want a quick and easy method to check for stolen content. The simplest and quickest way is a reverse image search on Google It is not 100% accurate but pretty good.

The obvious thing to check for is whether the image is carrying a watermark or copyright sign.

You can also check the posters other photos and will see if the work is consistent with the image you are concerned about.
