Exploring Barcelona - Fundació Joan Miró

Like most museums in the world you are often prohibited from taking photos inside or in the main area of the building. I try to respect the rules as much as possible but when I was allowed to walk around the open space on the roof of the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona I couldn't help but take a few snaps for all of you to enjoy.

This building was formed in the mind of Joan Miró himself, a Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona. This museum dedicated to his work was established in 1975 and achieved his goals of setting up an internationally recognised centre that mixed both his private collection of art and those of other contemporary artists of the time. It has since gone on to be a hub for contemporary art in general in this city.

The building itself was designed by architect Josep Lluís Sert, a close friend of Joan Miro and a supporter of the avant-garde architecture movement. He looked to use the mediterranean landscape and fuse it with the architectural elements of Miro's work, focusing heavily on the courtyard space that I captured here with the powerful white turrets. These were just a few pictures from a roll of film that I developed recently. Although Miro isn't on my top list of sculptors I find his creativity really infectious and loved to see/walk around this building.
