Needlework Monday: 38 more workdays….
Happy #NeedleworkMonday, family!
The votes have been counted, and the majority chose…
Thanks to all of you for helping me to decide which of these super cute projects to do for my coworker.
She mentioned to me this morning that she only has 38 workdays left before she retires. Which means I have 37 workdays to get her gift done!
Can I do it? Yes, I can!!
I told you all earlier that I won’t be able to purchase any more yarn until I use what I have (husband’s decree – LOL). This isn’t good for me because the type of yarn for the basket project is the Home Decorator’s type. It is significantly sturdier than the regular soft yarns that I have. However, I did some research this weekend, and I was able to find a homemade crochet stiffener that uses regular craft glue and water. The recipe stated if you want the project to be less sturdy, you use 1 part of the white craft glue to 2 parts water. If you want the project to be more sturdy, then use 1 part of the white craft glue to 1 part water. There was not a brand of glue specified on the recipe I found, so I will probably purchase the glue that kids use for school. I then have to find a container that will hold enough of this stiffener to dunk my entire project down in. (That should be easy enough, since we have a “Dollar Tree” store close by where everything is $1.00 and they most likely sell containers that are that large.) I also have to have some wax paper or plastic wrap to put the project on to dry.
As requested by our friend and fellow Steemian @marblely, here are the links to all three of the projects below:

Hope that you all had a great day today, and I’ll share with you more next week!

yes the bowls :-DDD Love them!

And with the stiffening... I once made a crochet mandala and wanted it to be stiff, so I tried out fabric stiffener (the one for curtains and so) and it does not work. The next step was a kind of transparent glue from my artist friend Silvia (I can ask her how it is named) This worked better, but not perfect. The crochet is now - ahem - crispy :-DDD And after a while of hanging on the wall it loosed it form again (perhaps 6 months). It is no longer round and the sides are coming up.
I think you will need a kind of t-shirt yarn to make this bowls, not only to give them stiffness, but also to lend them a clean and smooth appearance. I could imagine that a smooth and thick (above hooksize 6mm) cotton yarn could work too.
Let me know if I should ask my friend for the glue-thingy-mixture....
Oooooh, thanks for the info @neumannsalva. I definitely dont want "crispy" baskets - LOL. I woukd love to get the recommended yarn, but I must use what I have first. I will keep you posted. 😊

I have heard of people using the white craft glue and water as a stiffening agent so it definitely is a known method for making things stand up when they're knitted with a softer yarn. Have fun! I hope you enjoy making this project for her.
Thanks @jamethiel! I will definitely keep you posted.
I have never stiffen crochet @mrscwin. My only doubt is what happens if the basket then needs washing...
In the last photo you post I see the basket is double. I mean the inside is crocheted in one colour and the outside is crocheted in a different colour; then it's finished with a row of 'crab stitch'... I would say you may not need to worry about stiffening because it may well 'stand' by itself because of the thickness...
Best of luck 😬
That is true @cryptocariad - I did not think about washing them.
Yes, the basket is double and then crocheted together, so it may not need the stiffener. I was just worried that the soft yarn I have would not hold up. But the stiffening is the last step, so I'll share with you all before I stiffen. Thanks a bunch!
Exciting! I think @crypyocariad might have a point. Let's see how it turns out 😎 then you could make the decision about the glue later (I guess you immerse the basket after they are constructed)?
Yes - it is immersed after it is done. I'll share with you all before I stiffen it.
Yay to Project A! Aww.. thank you for the mention @mrscwin 😊, now I am shy.... And thank you for sharing the patterns. I agree with @cryptocariad and @shanibeer. You may not need to stiffen the basket at the end of it considering it will be quite sturdy with 2 layers of crochet.
You are so welcome @marblely! I totally forgot to send the links last week, so I just added them to this post!😊
Yes, I plan to show you all before I do the stiffening to see if I really need it. Thanks a bunch!
Oh wow, there are soooo many patterns in the links you gave! Thank you @mrscwin!
You are welcome!!

Have you heard of the Creative Mondays in the Steemit Ramble discord? They do a lot of needlework and would be a great community for you to be in with like-minded people.

Yes - I have actually joined a few times when my 9-5 job did not have me in a meeting. I enjoy the conversations so much. Thanks, @maverickinvictus!
