Hello Steemit - Girl from Seoul-but-Soon-to-be-in-Sydney Checking In!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello fellow Steemians

My husband @yhstella led me to this whole new bitcoin 'thing' and I found it pretty interesting - I post something useful for others (or even for my own records), and others enjoy it for free while helping me earn some coins. It really seem to be a win-win system for everyone. So I decided to post my things like a blog on Steemit, and so did my husband. I first thought it would be nice to run a blog together with my husband, but he doesn’t seem to agree with the idea, so we decided to open separate blogs... probably he had a concern about coins… like how to cut the coins if we only run a single blog

Anyway, introducing myself.

My name is Jungyoon as you may already know from my account name… I didn’t want to be THIS ‘UN-ANONYMOUS’, I just didn’t know that the ‘account name’ would be the actual ‘ACCOUNT NAME’… (What was I thinking?) If I knew, I would have used “prettygirlinKorea” or “youwillneverfindme” or “believemeornot”.

I don’t have any English name. I used to have one when I was in an elementary school in Canada more than a decade ago. My friends there called me “Jane” or “June”. Probably names that Asian female would have taken if there original name started with J. Then I spent most of my life in Korea, so I didn’t really need any English name.

I don’t really have any intention to make one even going forward, because I think my name is not THAT hard. If you can pronounce “Jungle” and “Universe” than you can definitely call my name exactly how it sounds. It’s Jung + Uni. Another reason for not having an English name? I think Ki Hong Lee, one of the most popular Korean-named-actor in the U.S. put it in the best way.
In the interview on Youtube, he said:

“I definitely thought about changing my name. I think Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba puts it best. She actually tells her story with her mom. When she said “Mom, can’t I change my name cause no one really can pronounce my name” and her mom goes “Well, if they know how to say Dostoyevsky and Tchaikovsky, they will definitely know how to say your name. That really resonated with me. I said “That’s right, man, you don’t have to change your name for anybody.”

My friends in Korea used to call me Yoonie (Sounds like ‘uni’) as it is easier to pronounce and sounds more friendly, so feel free to call me Yoonie if you want more intimacy :)

I live in Seoul now, but I'm about to move & live in Sydney for the next 6 months as a part of exchange program in my company. I work for a global company and my company provides a swap program for employees who wants to experience a whole new work and life in other countries. I'm 50% excited and 50% scared of a new life. I've never been in Australia so it's a real challenge for me to research all the housing information and hobbies etc.

Going forward, I'd like to post things mainly about Sydney life, probably in a lot in Korean and English. I found it hard to get Korean information about Sydney/Aus's housing and interesting activities. I'm more than excited to share my experience and knowledge about Sydney and Australia to my global and Korean folks. I already started considering myself as an ambassador of Korea in Sydney and ambassador of Australia in Seoul :)

I already posted two posts about my potential hobbies in Sydney - Golf and Pilates. They are in Korean, but stay tuned! I will update both in Korean and English as much as I can.

Hmmm what have I forgot about myself...

OHHHH. I'm married to @yhstella for a year. We got married June 2016. He's sad that I'll soon leave him in Korea and fly away to Australia (I believe that he is sad, but a few colleagues of mine said that he may be the best actor to pretend to be sad. in fact, he would be so happy that he will become 'free' again. well, I don't believe them..... or do I?)
