Why The Steem Monster Game Can Be Huge For Steem and Steemit Too!

in #busy6 years ago

Generally games and activities on Steemit are good for the whole ecosystem and creates demand and interest in Steem. This demand will manifest itself in two ways, attracting people to the platform and attracting money to Steem. Both outcomes are desirable and should be supported by the community at large. Not to support the price, but to encourage a healthy and dynamic platform that we can all benefit from. That's why I'm bringing up my story to explain as an example.

After 7 Months, Steem Monsters Sparked Me To Buy Steem

I bought steem the first time 50 days ago... I bought it to make a market in the "brand new game" called Steem Monsters. At the time there was no automated market like there is today, and frankly the prices were all over the place and swinging wildly. I did buy $300 worth of steem at the time and managed to spend that amount on monsters over the ensuing 40+ days. I gradually added to my portfolio and really enjoyed learning the game and meeting the players involved and the community support around it.

Price Drop Of Steem Drys Up Monster Buying Temporarily

Recently the price of Steem dropped to new 2018 lows and people became more illiquid. The deals people were offering to sell their cards kept getting better and better as people ran out of money. And that also included me. I loved to make some purchases at some of the prices I was seeing, but I too didn't have any liquidity to make those buys.

"What to do?", I thought... And then it dawned on me, "why not buy some more Steem and take advantage of these really cheap prices and buy more while the prices are cheap?"

Time To Double Up My Investment

So with prices so cheap, that is what I did. I bought another $450 worth of Steem and added more Steem Monsters to my deck. I am particularly buying into the gold versions right now as they have finally corrected in price (and maybe overshot a little to the downside)! I'm loving the purchases and very excited about the future of the game.

The reason I am telling you this is to highlight the lesson behind it. Steem Monsters has a lot of promise and can draw a lot of interest to the platform. It can also be a driver of both people to the platform and also money to buy Steem. To give you an example of how, I have just over 400 steem that I've accumulated since December of 2017... So for 8 months I put in my sweat and energy, but no capital. Part of the reason was the price of Steem had gone so high, but the other part of the reason is I didn't have anything I could buy with my Steem (other than fiat of course).

Steem Can Purchase Steem Monsters

Now I do have something to buy with my steem and its Steem Monsters. In fact I like it so much, that I am not only investing my regular steem in it. I also now have invested twice to accumulate almost double what I already had in the system. I think this is a perfect example of what might happen to many people as they learn about this game. We are still early, but so far I am very impressed with the quality of the game and the two guys running it @yabapmatt and @aggroed.

To really succeed though, Steem Monsters will have to go outside of the Steemit Community and draw new people into the game. This will bring added new people to see what the Steemit platform has to offer, plus it will also have the added benefit of bringing in new money. While the amount of money at this point is still super small relative to the overall market value of Steem, it does nonetheless have some serious potential to move the needle over time.

I know I plan on inviting several of my real world friends to join the game (and thus Steemit) once the games are on the verge of being played. I would suspect that many others will have that same thought too, and if true, that actually might impact the course of the currency and the platform itself.

Let's all hope so!

Disclaimer

This is not intended as investment advice and Steem Monsters is simply a game. I definitely think that people should NOT buy more than they can afford to lose. There are certainly many things that would have to happen positively to make this game go viral, so be aware that while I'm excited, I'm also aware that it might fail too. I can personally afford to lose the money I have put into the game and my decisions are based on my own financial condition.

Dave, can I call shotgun? I still haven't found someone who can prepare me for the tournaments that will be starting soon. I still don't have aclue what to do when that time will com. At least you ard famïliar with the fact that I must be the most stupid person on StefmIt when it comes to such things. As you know, I'm really, really slow when it comes to understanding things like this.

Earlier today, I was considering to sell all my cards. But then I saw how low the prizes were on the msrketplace - I would make a tremendous loss. The only option I have is to learn how to play, but for that to happen I need someone who won't be pissed if it takes me ages to learn bust one little thing.

I don't like asking people for help, but it looks like I have no otber choice😫

I would totally understand if you wouldn' t be prepatered to teach me, but I realized I had nothing to le just asking for trouble ☺

omgosh... I will definitely teach you... You are already on my team without us even talking about this... I was speaking with @cryptkeeper17 on the phone a few hours ago and we specifically mentioned you as someone that we definitely want on our side!

So yes you have shotgun! And I will help to teach you at any speed you like! I think you will really get a lot of enjoyment out of it too! I know how competitive you are and this is something that I think you will excel at!

And the great thing is, you really aren't behind at all... I have intentionally not engaged too many on the game aspects because they haven't come out and speculation is sometimes just idle chit-chat... So have no worries, you have a place and a home in this game! We are going to kick ass together! (with many of our other friends too) ;)

I'm with @simplymike my friend. I may start bugging you at some point on how the hell to play. Up voted and resteemed. :)

any time you want me to explain, lmk... we are getting within 3 weeks of the rules out and 6 to 7 weeks for play to start

so when you get some time lmk and I will get you definitely up to speed!

very good reply... always nice to help out others!

Ha, ha, ha. At @simplymike. I haven't got a clue either about what happens next.

I bought some cards because I could see the potential of bringing others to the platform but have no idea whether I will even play or not. I don't want it to take up a lot of my time that's for sure.

Maybe @davemccoy could run a sort of Steem Monsters 101 Club! 😂

I have no clue what the point of these types of games is. Is it to collect as many cards as you can? To win battles or to earn money? No idea! 😂 😂 😂

I looked at my cards yesterday and noticed that I have multiples of some so I'm wondering . . . is there a place where I can swap cards? And, if there is, would be it be a good idea to try and get some complete sets before we start?

Hope it's OK to jump on this post and ask. 😁

No problem :0)
I don't know anything about it yet, except that you can combine duplicate cards you have times. Once combined, they become one card, but with a higher XP level, which means they are more valuable and stronger when the tournaments finally start.

Well you already know a lot more than me then @simplymike. 😁

Thank you for the information.

@gillianpearce lol... I will definitely help anyone that wants to know more about the game! And the great thing is it won't take up too much of your time... You only need to draft your team from your deck and then play...

To answer your question about your doubles, yes... but wait until you are ready to focus on the game... because you have the choice of adding them together and making them more powerful... I will explain all that to you when the rules come out... I'm staying on top of it and will be glad to help all my friends figure it out :P

Thank you soooooo much @davemccoy. 😍

So for now, the best advice is to hold tight? Correct?

@gillianpearce yes... as soon as we have the rules then it will be much easier to explain and make decisions... Right now its just people speculating and having fun buying packs for the big ones... but soon there will be the rules and then we will get definitely prepared! ;)

Okey, dokey. I await your wisdom @davemccoy. 😁

Cool!I had been saying to @valth I had to find mysel a teacher somehow for weeks.
Can you believe it never really occured to.me to ask you, up until yesterday? :0D

@simplymike you should always know that your nutrisweet sugar-minnow will give you help! I am ready anytime you are... the true fun will begin when the rules are out! (this month) :D

Awesome! I totally agree with you! It is a game that I love but after all it is still crypto! I have seen a lot of investors invest in Steem Monsters, it is so exciting! That is also great you got some STEEM!! :-)

Thank you @clove71 :) ... It is very exciting and I think people are going to be blown away once the games actually begin. I know I continue to learn things every day, and the potential ahead is really and truly amazing! :D

It is! I battled non stop in Cryptofighters getting up to the #1 spot, it is really fun and Steem Monsters Blows away Cryptofighters, so I can just imagine.... lol!!

@clove71 I don't know about the cryptofighters, but I believe you! I am very excited and with you 100% of the way on how exciting this will be! :D

Last post I am going to resteem from you! Lol, people probably think steemmonsters took over my life too since steemmonsters is all over my blog. Since I don't have the time to write about the game and encourage others to join, I resteem and let them read about it that way. At least, I hope they decide to read and learn more about the game. I know it's going to be big!

@beeyou 🙄... ohhh no... I am losing all kinds of support if you stop that! You are the only reason my post breaks a buck! I hope you had a great weekend and I'm looking forward to filling you in on all the activity this weekend! Lots of monster news!

Have you seen my blog lately? Steemmonsters took over! :D

I had a great weekend, thanks. Hope you had a good one as well! You will have to fill me in on monster news. I'm a bit behind, but did catch the interview of Matt and aggroed with steemitblog. That was cool!

Investing more in monsters? You are such a beast Dave!

I like the game and the potential... And I like that they are putting 70% of the sales back into the prizes... I have no idea if it pans out long term, but its something that has excited me here that could be good... We will see how it pans out, just keep your eyes open because you're on my team for sure ;)

Yep, team awesome:)

I like the fact that you mentioned that steemmonsters will need to attract people from outside the steemit community. That is very true for the long term success and potential!

definitely! lol... don't forget it either!

And yes of course, without getting interest in the outside world, this will be limited to a very small number of players. It does have good potential to grow outside our little network, I think if people pay attention they will be surprised at what might be ahead ;)

The funny thing is this. You know how you can buy steem monsters with credit cards? Well you can also sell steem monsters for steem/sbd. So basically steem monster became a fiat gateway to buying crypto.
Food for thought-was going to write about this later

I agree completely... In fact, the steem monsters are more stable in price than steem or sbd... And because of that they might eventually become a way to also hedge the currencies. Right now of course it is so small that they depth of the market isn't there, but someday that could really happen! Always like to hear your thoughts, send me the link in discord if you write about it! :)

Wow, you learn something new every day! I did NOT know you could buy them with credit cards, which answers my question/concern about this being a bit spendy when you can only afford to put in $50 now and then... you'd lose a bunch of that in the course of going through exchanges to get Steem and THEN buy card packs.

Thanks for the info!

i don't think it out yet- but i think it a planned feature.

@trufflepig thank you very much... that is awesome of you and even if my post doesn't get there, then I love that you feel the post was worth that :D

Huh? Seems like I already voted on this post, thanks for calling anyway!

lol... no I meant that if my post didn't make the projections... In other words, you think it will hit $15 in value and I'm saying that "if it doesn't get there" then I'm glad you thought the post was good :) ... And thank you again, its a very nice compliment to be picked by you all :)

Wonderful post! I always learn a lot from your posts about SteemMonsters.

@marinaart thank you! The rules will be out this month for sure and then we will get serious about getting set up and having fun with this! ;)

I would agree that for @steemmonsters to take off on a truly big scale, there will have to be an inflow from outside the existing Steemit member base. And that can only be good for the community... and the long term outlook for Steem.

=^..^=

@curatorcat I think we completely agree... Right now there isn't a live game yet, and when that happens then I think we will see exactly how good the game appeals to people here and outside of steemit. I am more than mildly excited, but of course we will have to see for sure :P

Good thing you are keeping everybody filled in. I still feel clueless. Maybe I better try to listen to some of those shows maybe I will get a clue.

@headchange its ok... I think you are not alone... The hardest part about this phase is there isn't the rules yet... As soon as those come out then it will be easier to make sure that you have a "clue".... Until then it is just a lot of guessing and speculation.

That may be a good thing, I am still able to win a few cards here and there. They may be harder to come by as the games begin.
