Day2Day Hustle and Bustle

in #purpose7 years ago (edited)

This post is a response to a blog I read by @breakthrough called, You Driving Your Life or Being Driven. I enjoyed reading the post because in general a lot of people like myself get caught up in the day to day hustle and bustle. We get so caught up in the day to day life that we don’t take the time needed to think about what drives us. What drives our actions? What drives our life?

The emotional state I enjoy being in is one of content. I want to say my external environment play a role in affecting my emotion. However, it does not trigger my emotions because I am in control of making decisions and that my emotions do not get out of control. External factors have yet to cause me an emotional breakdown. Indeed, external factors are the cause of most emotional breakdowns.

I am sure we all want to be better in some way. It may be different in the way that we go about obtaining it but there is no doubt a different drive for us all. Some drives are common and even create a challenge or sort of competition.

What I mean by that is simple things that people take for granted like having money to pay for residence, food, entertainment, and healthcare. It is impossible to have a continual state of happiness until you have a good understanding and acceptance of yourself. If you lose one of those small things you ultimately lose your happiness.

Bills make me realize it has control over my emotions. People I interact with and do business with hold persuasion over my emotions. My beliefs control my emotions. I believe that we will not always be happy, but it is how you deal with trials, losses and failures that will return you to true happiness. Also, when I challenge myself to face things that cause me anxiety head on. Some anxieties come from trying to complete a task alone. I want to say that I can’t control the emotion when it comes but I do know how to control my reaction and behavior while experiencing it.

Making a goal or plan and not following through on it makes me sad. Following through on it makes me excited to move to the next level. Good food, entertainment, and reading good topics that I like makes me content. Nasty food makes me sad. A new born family member makes me excited. Family get togethers makes me excited. Death in the family makes me sad and cause me to reflect. I am a simple man.

I am also a firm believer that a person should only hold occupations that they truly enjoy. I do not feel as if I have a job, but I do. I work 40 hours+ a week and it is tedious. I depend on my job to pay bills. If I didn’t depend on my job to pay bills I would keep it. I must come across someone who can understand what drive is. The short answer is people would say success and money is driving my life. Being stable in my needs and values. What is success?

I have a small network but that is my perception. A person should remain open to family and friends by not shutting them out of their lives. People handle that aspect differently. No one wants to feel used or responsible for another adult’s failure. It is hard to deal with anyone in that situation. I would give them space, tough love, and always good advice.

Reality is what it is.

Perception is what you think it is. Perception is not what you think it is going to be or lying to yourself about what it is.

I chose not to lie to myself. .

My true motivation is to not become homeless and hungry. I feel for people living in these conditions involuntarily. To prevent someone taking from me; an internal fear motivates me. It is a series of things I consider success and failure. Probably based off the Maslow Chart. Everything, else I could say branch off that.

Certain experiences in my life has made me aware of what I consider my basic needs. Take for example, one 24-hour day:

Sleep- 6 to 9 hours

Work- 9 to 12 hours

Relieving yourself- 1-2 hours

Eating- 1-2 hours

Spending time with Family- 2-3 hours

Extra curriculum Activities- 2-3 hours

Studying- 2-3 hours

Creating and sticking to a routine is how I keep myself motivated. .
