You Driving Your Life or Being Driven?
What are you looking for today? And Why are you looking at that?
These two questions are pretty simple, and remarkably unasked. Most people will tell you what they are doing that day, most people have a basic understanding of their schedule. But very few people consciously quantify why they are putting their time, emotion and mental strength into that. Consequently, our ability to achieve, be satisfied, make an impact on the world around us is minimal because we do not understand what is driving us! Everything you are doing has something motivating it, do you know what that is? Take a few minutes to ask the question.
When you don't know, you are unable actively seek it out. The result of your life will then typically be a byproduct of the culture. You can make your own judgement on if you want that, each culture is different. I live in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave and find that the byproduct of my culture is a person enslaved to a $$, pills, entertainment and the opinions of others...no thank you...
How Do I know What Is Driving Me?
I have over simplified this in the introduction. Partly, because its not that complicated if you just yourself the question, but it can be a complex issue, based on specific individuals experience's and context. Let me give out a few ways to help you ask the question.
- Be honest with yourself - This may be a sobering question if its the first time you have asked it in a awhile. You may not really like what is motivating you currently, but Identifying it will only help you if you want to change it!
- Look at what controls your emotional state - People have different level's of emotional expression, but everyone does have them. What gets you excited or sad? Is it a specific relationships? Is it work? Success? Pleasure? Write it down on a piece of paper and look at it.
- Ask a few people around you what they think is driving your life - depending on your network of friends/co-workers/family this can be easy or difficult, regardless it's needed. Often times we carry blindspots. Or areas where we think we understand reality but really its only our perception. It's the idea that we may carry some deception about reality, the only way you know that you are deceived is if someone shows you...
these bros could use some friends helping them with their blindspots...
(Episode VIII preview just dropped...so pumped)
So what is it driving you?
Would love to hear a bit about your journey below - when did you start becoming aware of your motivation. Are you motivated by an internal fear? Did certain experiences in your life help you become aware of it? Have you found different ways to keep yourself motivated?

I will like to answer this great question you post in this writeup. I am driving me and same time i am being driven by other things like my desire for greatness and influence.
I am abit driven by money some time but money has never gotten full control of my life stirring. I gave it all to greatness and influence. Because i believe money is a side effect of becoming influential and great.
Recently the little success i am getting on steemit has been driving my daily writing ability and i love that. Maybe some other things too that i might not share here in this comment
Excellent thanks for your comment -
What areas of your life do you see yourself or want to see yourself become influential? and how do you intend to get there?
Great question man
I have a public and motivational speaking talent and value that talent so much. So i will want to see myself becoming influential in that field and it easy that way. Just motivate and inspire people by sharing my own experience and it helps them, then i become influential.
Secondly i will love to become influential by being at the forefront of new technologies like i am planning to do with Blockchain technology and Cross Laminated Timber CLT. By building a smart city from scratch that has it own cryptocurrency on the blockchain and utilize timber technology for 65% of it residential building and city infrastructures.
There are definitely more to these but i will pause here
Sound like you are on your way! Enjoy the ride man - and I will have to look into CLT, I have never heard of that technology - really appreciate you sharing - I like rooting for people that know where they are going - I have no doubt you already have developed influence in your immediate sphere of people and will only continue to make a positive impact on those around.
keep it up
Thanks for the post @breakthrough you have given me something to work on. I want to answer those questions on paper so I can see how and where I need to make changes at. Off the top of my head I would say that internal fear is awareness. Some people that smoke cigarettes for example, knows the harm the smoke cause but they smoke anyway. Internally, they are aware but maybe their fear of a nicotine attack is stronger than the withdrawal.
thanks for commenting! yea if you do ask those questions let me know how they go! Specifically the 3rd one! I am fascinated and curious on what community looks like for people in their lives that have a stronger community in online spheres...like steemit
have a great day! and let me know if you do ask the q's
Very impressed with this article. It's a very simple subject, but one that isn't normally acknowledged or talked about.
I have a really difficult time with motivation. After I lost my last job, a friend suggested I try Steemit. I was burnt out with dead end jobs and manipulative bosses. I'm very motivated to be on Steemit because it's giving me the emotional feel goods. I can connect with people and talk about things that interest me.
And like everyone I hope to be able to make a little bit of money here, but more and more I'm feeling like that isn't a reality because I don't have the capital to invest in Steemit and that's very frustrating.
I've only been on here two months, but already I have learned not to sink my energy into people that seem to gravitate around drama. Before Steemit, I felt like I was in a downward spiral with nothing to look forward to. I hated getting up for work, I hated not having enough time to do the things I wanted to do. So while I am very motivated to be here, it's a catch 22 because I know eventually I will have to go back to work in order to survive.
That right there is negative motivation, as compared to the positive motivation I get by being here. Hopefully I will find a way to balance the two income to a point of equilibrium.
thanks for sharing so vulnerably! I am impressed with people that seem to have made full time type money of off this platform...I am finding it challenging to block of a few hours a week to put out quality content.
I believe all things work out in the right time - I believe this process you are in is only increasing your self awareness and enabling you to grow as a person. The right think will come along! You may have to put some work into it...but it will be the type of effort that makes you come alive...maybe on steem maybe somewhere else! Stay positive! thanks for sharing
My peers or other colleagues have achieved more than me in spite of having same qualifications- that what driving me forward. Honestly ;)
hey all in good time - every moment...weather in promotion or not is an opportunity for you to grow as a person...dont let a $$ define you...keep working on hard, and you will find satisfaction - regardless of circumstances...
My first goal in life is to love God and love people and in as much as I don't want money to be my driving force, I live in a materialistic world where it is almost impossible to live without money. In a certain sense, everyone that is honest with themselves will admit that they are driven by their need for money. Without money, you cannot survive in this world. I just decide some time ago that I must find a way to make money without being a slave to someone else. I have less money now but I am much happier in my life. Hubby and myself are all the while exploring other activities to make money by ourselves. Steemit is one of this avenues that I am experimenting with, after some time I will have to sit and decide, if all the time and effort are worth the while, for the amount of money I get out, or is the other rewards, like the writing and the community enough reward to carry on.

Thanks for this thought-provoking post!
you bet! and so true about money...catch 22 at times - how long have you been on steemit? I too am asking the question 4 months in what kind of commitment I am trying to make to this platform. Its been incredible for me to start writing regularly, but you have to block out the time no doubt...
Being on steemit since middle June, going on 5 months. Still enjoying it, everyone says we need to keep on steeming as the rewards will get better.

I'm still in that confused moments.
There is some light at the end of the tunnel but the road is becomes more distant.
I replied to a recent post regarding daily issues of people with cliches... i call them bots... robots... sheeps... without a mean... meaning.
Most of them do what they learned and haven't got out the lines which were drawn. It is not always their fault. Not all of us can be creative or have the power to make interesting things. We all have our way to be. It depends if we meet that moment of detachment from daily routine.
Usually, after bad, bad moments people are waking up. And see another world, another chance. Then it depends only of them which path they take.
But life isn't fair all the time and despite we know what we want to do and be, we can't.
So, things can be as simple as it sounds to change your life but for some to look more complicated than the whole universe.
For me, i still have the dream that i will can continue with my passion for photography and graphics. But, not having contact with them lately, it changes you. It could be a good thing, to have a fresh look when i do or a bad one. Because the people i see around.
More and more dumb people, more and more sheeps and controled by technology.
Even i stay more time here, near computer. But my health don't let me stay out standing too much.
I will see how it goes. I also still have the child in me and doing "crazy" things. Hehe. Few people around are and it makes me sad. But, it is what it is.
Cheers buddy

Good question and so deep! So often, especially when we think we are in total control, we really aren't. So much unconscious conditioning is going on. And we are influenced by simple things like being hungry in major decision making.
it's complicated.....
complicated in deed! but worth the journey of asking
