This is my entry for Creative Writing Challenge #5: Lost Memories

The Challenge: Your task is to write a story that connects the two images below.

Apply the retrospective approach to the story or surprise everyone with your own interpretation.

My notes: When speaking of lost memories or forgotten stories, it's hard not to think of certain topics. This is the story I had in my head immediately when I saw the pics and the challenge, so even if it's a bit simple I went with it. I hope you enjoy!

Wow! That ending surprised me. Good stuff!

Thanks for reading! :)

Aww, so sad about the kids not visiting her anymore. I think that's the worst part. I like how you show how people with alzheimer's don't necessarily forget who they are, but keep snippets of it. :~(

I think we all will get that way when we get older, alzheimer's or not. Just a bit foggy in the head, but we will love to think on our memories and of better times.

So touching and simple... and then the end gave me a laugh! Great twist on the meaning of "one of them".

Thank you for reading, and the comments! Glad you enjoyed it :)

I really like the straightforward writing style. I think it depicts a struggle that many families deal with and can relate to. The place for our elderly, and the value they bring to the lives of others, and their feeling about it, not just those having to hold the responsibility.

Thanks. It's a struggle we don't want to look at too closely, or since I think we'd all feel guilty.

That's a real quality piece of writing dude, so sad at the end.
Good work buddy.

good one and nice sting at the end.

well, it stung a lot a lot of times on the way through too, but we are getting pummelled from all sides in here, so just rolled with the flow on those ones

What we do to old people in our culture is shocking, they are everywhere now too.

This village is full of 'em, out sitting in the sun.

good for them.

lol

I can't talk cause I moved away 18 years ago and only visit my home V. irregularly. (¿once?)
Even calling the old geezers on skype tests ones patience.

well they answer their phones of course, none of that new fangled stuff

Thanks! We should all feel a bit guilty at times, I think, with how we treat our elders. We're all going to get old someday, even if we don't believe it to be true.

I talk to my mom on FB all the time, and she's finally found out how to send photos via text, so at least there is progress there :)

are you a long way away?

I spend about 8 months of the year in Florida, about 1500mi from my mom. Then I come back north to Wisconsin for the summer, and I'm then about 45 minutes away. I still don't visit as often as I should :(

This is heartbreaking but it speaks of reality... both in case of Alzheimer's and the children being busy and unaccepting... :(

It's sad but true, and we're all probably a little bit guilty of it. Thanks for reading!

Unfortunately, right? So I spend as much time possible with my grandma and parents... <3
